Background

In July 2018, Oxfam in Lebanon, alongside the Legal Agenda and the Lebanese Observatory for Workers’ and Employees’ Rights (LOWER) and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Coordination, launched the My Work, My Rights Network that is comprised of 10 local civil society organizations (CSOs). The Network aims to advocate for improved protection for individuals involved in the formal and informal labour market in Lebanon. More specifically, the Network’s objectives are:

  • Abolishing Article 7 of the Lebanese Labour Law
  • Strengthening the inspection mechanisms at the National Social Security Fund
  • Strengthening the role of the labour arbitration councils

 

Objectives

  1. Enhance participants understanding of campaigning and influencing
  2. Understand what makes campaigning and influencing successful, the common challenges and mistakes 
  3. Understand the different components of building a campaign and influencing strategy (planning, power mapping, etc)
  4. Discuss suitable tools and instruments for campaigning and influencing on labour rights in the current Lebanese context, and factors to consider when identifying a suitable approach
  5. Overview of tools and instruments to put in place a successful campaign and influencing  
  6. Convey the importance of monitoring and evaluation for advocacy

 

Expected outcome

Network members apply knowledge acquired during the session as they develop and implement the Network’s strategy for influencing and campaigning.

 

Training approach

The training will comprise of a series of sessions, group discussions and experience sharing by network and non-network members that have experience in campaigning on legislative and institutional reform.

Attendees will fill out pre- and post-session forms.

 

Partners

The training session is organized by the Network’s Steering Committee, comprised of the Anti-Racism Movement, Oxfam in Lebanon, LOWER, the Legal Agenda, and the Lebanese Union for People with Physical Disabilities. The session is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

 

 

 

 

Terms of Reference for a Trainer on Campaigning and Influencing

The Network’s Steering Committee[1] is looking for a trainer that has demonstrated experience in training and working with CSOs on campaigning and influencing. Previous experience in influencing on labour rights is a plus.

The training will be conducted in Arabic and will take place on June 27 and 28, 2019. The trainer is expected to submit the following deliverables according to the timeline below:

The task is expected to take a total of three and a half days (3.5) working days.

Interested consultants should present their resumes and a quotation for the training to [email protected] by 9 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019. The selected candidate will be asked to meet with the team to develop the training agenda and brainstorm a suitable methodology on Monday afternoon. The proposal should include all the estimated costs including preparation and implementation costs. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
