Research Residency for Theatre Makers
The Migrant Community Center (MCC) and the non-profit theatre organization Masrah Ensemble (ME) invite theatre makers, performing artists, playwrights, and directors who are under the age of 29 and residents in Lebanon to submit applications to a research residency program to take place at MCC in summer 2017.
The residency provides the opportunity for an artist to pursue a research project that engages MCC members over a three-month period while benefitting from the collaboration of ME artists and managers.
The expectation is neither to produce a work nor to develop an old one but rather to lead and undertake a research, development, and workshop program through a collaborative, consultative, and community-driven process. The residency culminates with an informal public presentation led by the artist-in-residence.
The three-month program provides the selected theatre maker with a fellowship of $1,075 gross; administrative and artistic support from both MCC and ME; and space to conduct research and workshops in order to develop a project in Beirut, Jounieh, and/or Saida.
Open to artists of all nationalities regardless of their legal status in Lebanon, the program is designed for theatre practitioners who have led, developed, and/or participated in at least one performance or artistic research initiative in Lebanon and who can communicate in Arabic.

Finalists will be invited to discuss their proposal with members of the selection committee, and then Masrah Ensemble will announce the selected theatre maker-in-residence in June 2017.
