Call for Production Optimization Assessment expert- Food system Challenge

Context & Background

Berytech is a leading organization in Lebanon's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting. Hence, Berytech is taking part in the country's economic revival, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.

About FSC PROJECT

The Food System Challenge supports businesses to solve core challenges of the food system in Lebanon, and more specifically in the sectors of dairy and meat production (cow, goat, sheep), cereals and pulses (and its by-products), protected horticulture (Classical green houses, hydroponics, and aquaponics), and domesticated edible herbs and plants.

The Food System Challenge is implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Berytech through support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Throughout FSC’s previous and current cycles, the program supported over 40 SMEs to fortify the Lebanese food system to create a more sustainable ecosystem.

SME Background

  1. Farmhill specializes in producing artisanal cheeses such as Kashkaval, Mozzarella, and Manchego, using fresh milk sourced from local farmers.
  2. Dairy Baroud, founded in 1975 and registered as Baroud Center SAL in 2023, is a well-established dairy producer in Lebanon. Specializing in production of dairy products such as white cheese, hard cheese, yogurt, and labneh, the company sources fresh milk from local farmers and has built a strong reputation for quality and sustainability.
  3. Tsoler’s produces a range of high-quality baked snacks using natural ingredients and traditional Lebanese flavors. With a significant portion of its products already exported to 13 countries, including the GCC, EU, and the US, Tsoler’s aims to strengthen its presence in Europe and GCC by targeting distributors, expanding its network, and adapting to market-specific demands. The consultancy will play a crucial role in facilitating this strategic market entry. Through this consultancy, Tsolers is willing to secure meetings and deals with distributors mainly in North Europe and the GCC.

Objective The primary objective of this assessment is to evaluate the current production processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend strategies to optimize production, reduce costs, and improve product quality.Scope of work:

The scope of work for this project includes, but is not limited to:

  • Identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the current production processes.
  • Providing recommendations on implementing the best practices and innovative solutions to streamline operations.
  • Providing recommendations on reducing production costs without compromising quality.
  • Providing recommendations for increasing overall production capacity and output.
  • Providing recommendations on enhancing product quality and consistency.

Duration

The consultancy is expected to span 1 month, with specific on-site days to be agreed upon based on project milestones and progress.

Key Deliverables

The consultant/firm will be responsible for delivering the following:

  • A detailed analysis report of the current production processes.
  • A comprehensive optimization plan with clear action steps and timelines.

Qualifications:

The consultant/firm should possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience in production optimization and process improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management and communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with industry best practices and innovative solutions.

How to apply

Timeline And Application
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities soon after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both the company’s and the Consultant’s availability. The total budget allocated for the intervention is about $1,800.

Candidates should submit the following documents.

  • Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, Duration, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
  • Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs should be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
  • Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed timeframe of the intervention. Quotations in response to this RFP must be priced on a Level-of-effort (Number of working days) term contract, all-inclusive basis, including delivery and all other costs. Pricing must be presented in USD and offers must remain valid for not less than 30 calendar days after the offer deadline. Offerors are requested to provide quotations on their official quotation format or letterhead.
