A short description about SSSE: 

The Society for Social Support and Education (SSSE) #1503 was founded in Beirut, Lebanon in August 2019 to provide a wide range of services to Syrian refugees with special focus on educational initiatives that are designed to brighten the minds, careers and futures of school-age children. Prior to 2019, and precisely starting in 2011 as Syrian refugees began pouring into Lebanon, SSSE succeeded in establishing several schools and recruiting many students as well as generating funds for humanitarian relief.

We’re looking for a highly experienced architect to construct a playground in one of our educational centers in Kamed el loz, and the maintenance of another playground in an educational center in Ghazzah.

The right person for the job will have strong technical knowledge in conceptual design, building planning and detailing, construction documentation, and construction administration. We seek someone with the soul and passion of an artist, supported with strong technical skills. He/she must bring site, structure, science, and technology knowledge to the project, while incorporating our organization’s objectives with respect to context, culture, and overall sustainability.

Objectives of this Role

·   Design, document, and execute the project by collaborating with all internal and external teams

·   Maintain close working relationships with a team of related professionals, including engineers, construction managers, surveyors, and government representatives

·   Cultivate expert knowledge of building products, construction details, regulations, and quality standards, budgets, and timelines

·   Adhere to legal and industry standards in design and building codes, following and setting industry trends and architectural advancements

·   Lead the creation of a conceptual framework for the project, Incorporating the organization standards, goals, and ideals

 

Duties, responsibilities and qualifications

§  Conduct evaluation to identify the building requirements and needs of the project

§  Discuss with the organization to spot the objectives and budget for the project

§  Assist the organization in taking appropriate decisions on the design, location, and materials for both playgrounds

§  Produce building plans using computer aided design software programs and technical drawing tools

§  Specify the measurement, materials and outline of building components to be implemented by building contractors

§  Ensure building designs fall within the specified budget and requirements

§ Liaise with construction experts, such as surveyors and urban planning engineers to design and construct safe and up-to-standard architectural structures

§  Monitor construction activities at a site to ensure design specification, and that plans are maintained

§  Establish contact with the organization to discuss building progress, issues arising, and necessary adjustments to be made

§  Oversee the activities of site contractors to ensure timely completion of the project

§ Ensure an architectural structure is in compliance with government safety and health regulations.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

Interested individual consultants shall have the capacity to enter into a short-term contract and shall have satisfactory performance and integrity records and work ethics.

 

Eligibility requirements:

·   Must have Previous working experience as an Architect for at least 5 years; experience in the construction of playgrounds is highly preferred

·   MA in Architecture is preferred

·   Highly proficient in oral and written Arabic and English is required

·   In-depth knowledge of building and construction process and operations

·   Familiarity with relevant legal regulations in Lebanon 

·   Hands-on experience with design computer programs

·   Great attention to detail

·   Critical thinker and problem-solving skills 

·   Team player

·   Good time-management skills

·   Great interpersonal and communication skills

 Financial proposal that shall specify a total lump sum amount, and payment terms around the specific and measurable deliverables of the TOR. Payments are based upon output, i.e. upon delivery of the services specified in the TOR, and deliverables accepted and certified by the technical manager.  The financial proposal must be all-inclusive and take into account various expenses that will be incurred during the contract, including: the daily professional fee; (excluding mission travel); living allowances at the duty station; communications, utilities and consumables; life, health and any other insurance; risks and inconveniences related to work under hardship and hazardous conditions (e.g., personal security needs, etc.), when applicable; and any other relevant expenses related to the performance of services under the contract.
