Graphic Designer: Solid Waste Management – Awareness Campaign – Materials design

The Graphic Designer will work under the EU-funded project titled ‘Supporting Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Jurd al Qaita’ and AICS-funded project titled ‘Supporting Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Jurd al Qaita’

The Graphic Designer will be responsible for creating, developing and designing engaging and informative graphic materials that promote awareness of solid waste management practices.

The Objective of this mission is to create, develop and design visually engaging and informative materials that effectively communicate key messages about waste reduction, recycling, and proper waste disposal practices for an awareness campaign on solid waste management. The Graphic Designer will design and produce a variety of attractive graphics, including posters, flyers, stickers, brochures, booklets, roll-up banners, flex banners, and fridge magnets. These materials are meant to raise public awareness and encourage community involvement in sustainable waste management practices, ultimately inspiring residents to take steps toward reducing waste and protecting the environment.

Scope of work

The Graphic Designer will be responsible for developing and designing the following communication materials

  • Posters: Develop and design 3 attention-grabbing posters (2 posters 60*80cm and 1 poster 60*40 cm) to raise awareness about waste management.
  • Flyers: Develop and design 1 tri-fold flyers (A4 size) for distribution to households and businesses.
  • Brochures: Develop and design 2 A5 brochures containing sorting guidelines and tips.
  • Roll-Up Banner: Develop and design 2 multi-section roll-up banner (180 x 80 cm) that provides key information about waste management practices.
  • Stickers for Bins and Trucks: Develop and design 6 vinyl stickers with different dimensions for waste bins and compactor trucks.
  • Flex Banners: Develop and design 1 flex banners for use at community events.
  • Fridge Magnets: Develop and design 1 flyer which will be converted to fridge magnet with clear illustrations of waste sorting bins (green, red, and grey) and examples of acceptable waste items, featuring a full magnet on the back.
  • Booklets: Develop and design 2 A5 booklets (4 pages and 5 pages) to be distributed for students and contain age appropriate content on waste sorting and management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reviewing the content and key messages prepared by the content development consultant for the different types of materials mentioned above.
  • Work closely with the Mada’s team and the content development consultant to understand the targeted audience and the messaging requirements.
  • Convert waste management messages into visually appealing illustrations and infographics, ensuring they are rich in detail and easy to understand.
  • Design creative, professional, and visually compelling materials.
  • Provide multiple design options for feedback and selection.
  • Revise drafts based on feedback from the team.
  • Prepare print-ready files for all printed materials.
  • Deliver final design files in editable and non-editable formats.
  • Provide detailed specifications for all materials, including but not limited to dimensions, type of paper or material to be used, color profiles, weight or thickness of printed materials, and recommended printing methods.
  • Support Mada team in reviewing the samples of the materials before printing.

The Graphic Designer should expect several rounds of modifications before submitting the final designs.

Deliverables:

  • Finalized designs for all the materials mentioned above.
  • Detailed specifications for all materials, including but not limited to dimensions, type of paper or material to be used, color profiles, weight or thickness of printed materials, and recommended printing methods.
  • Print-ready files for each material.
  • Editable source files.
  • Digital versions of the materials optimized for online use.

Qualification and Experience

  •  University degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in creating visual materials for awareness campaigns.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in graphic design.
  • Strong proficiency in graphic design software relevant to the requested materials
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant design work.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to feedback.
  • Experience working with NGOs is a plus.
