Consultant to develop a Governance Handbook
The queer movement in MENA largely consists of informal groups and initiatives, registration for these organizations is not possible in most countries, and these groups operate mainly under the radar, they obtain funding, deliver services, and advocacy, and are expected to have good governance by both funders and their constituents. Developing governance models that work for these groups is challenging but needed.
The objective of this consultancy is to develop a comprehensive governance handbook tailored to the unique needs and constraints of queer organizations in the MENA region.
The consultant will be expected to:
- Conduct a review of the current governance practices within queer organizations in the MENA region.
- Identify best practices in governance from similar organizations in the region and globally.
- Develop a comprehensive governance handbook that includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Organizational Structures
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Decision-making Processes
- Financial Management
- Risk Management
- Human Resource Management
- Information and Data Management
- Accountability Mechanisms.
- Practical Tools and Templates, to aid in the implementation of the governance handbook.
Deliverables:
- A comprehensive governance handbook for queer organizations in the MENA region.
- A final report detailing the process, findings, and recommendations for future governance practices.
Timeframe:
The consultancy is expected to be completed within four months from signing a contract.
Qualifications of successful candidate:
- Proven experience in organizational development and governance, preferably within the context of queer organizations in the MENA region.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic. (English might be sufficient but translation costs need to be built into the consultant fees.
- Sensitivity and understanding of the unique challenges faced by queer organizations in the MENA region.
