"Picture It, Build Your Future": Marina’s European Solidarity Corps Experience

My name is Marina Topuskanian, I am Lebanese Armenian. Between October 2023 and April 2024, I volunteered in Poland under the European Solidairyt Corps program funded by the European Union. I was hosted by Fundacja Rozwoju Społeczeństwa Przedsiębiorczego in Poland and supported by Chabibeh Sporting Club Lebanon.

Volunteering in Poland

I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at NZPE Montessori school in Pszczyna, Poland, through the European Solidarity Corps. This enriching experience, facilitated by my sending organization, Chabibeh Sporting Club, and hosted by FRSP in Poland, has been a journey of learning, growth, and cultural exchange that I will cherish forever.

 Teaching and Workshops

At the Montessori school, my primary role was to teach languages and lead various workshops. I conducted art and crafts sessions, dance classes, and cooking workshops featuring traditional cuisines. Sharing the rich cultural heritage of Lebanon and Armenia through presentations was a highlight, as I introduced the students to our unique festivals and celebrations. These activities not only broadened the students' horizons but also deepened my appreciation for my own cultural roots.

Seasonal Decorations and Celebrations

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my volunteering was decorating the school for different seasons and festivals. From the warm hues of autumn and the festive spirit of Christmas to the serene beauty of winter and the vibrant bloom of spring, each season brought a new theme to explore. Celebrating Easter and other local traditions with the children and staff created a sense of community and belonging, making every moment special.

Cultural Exchange and Travel

Beyondthe school, this experience was a gateway to exploring Europe. I had the chance to travel to several countries, immersing myself in diverse cultures and languages. These travels enriched my understanding of the world and allowed me to form lasting friendships with people from various backgrounds. The cultural exchange was a two-way street, where I not only taught but also learned a great deal from others.

 Personal Growth and Recommendations

Volunteering in Poland has been a profoundly positive experience. It has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the joy of giving back to the community. The friendships I formed and the moments I experienced are now treasured memories. This journey has shown me the value  of cultural exchange and the impact we can have on each other's lives.

I holeheartedly recommend this experience to everyone. The European Solidarity Corps provides a unique platform to engage with different cultures, gain valuable skills, and contribute meaningfully to communities. It is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.
