Psychologist– Education Program

Background of the Project: 

The project “Promoting the Right to Education for All- Investing in a Community of Educated, Autonomous Citizens in South Lebanon” aims at broadening the prospects for vulnerable populations in three communities in South Lebanon through improved access to education (Improving the learning performances, enhancing the learning environment, engaging the local community in the promotion of education). 

The project will benefit 800 children, youth, and caregivers from the most vulnerable populations in South Lebanon. Of these 800, 600 will be children (between the ages of 6 and 14), 100 youth (between 15 and 24 years old), and 100 adults (25 years and older), mainly caregivers of the children participating in the activities. 

The 600 children, 400 children attend school and 200 do not attend school (They are taught Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) to give them the basic tools to continue their education). 

The youth will participate in project activities, especially Youth Basic Literacy Numeracy (YBLN), transferable skills training, psychosocial support, and community committees and initiatives as needed. These are usually young people who have difficulties finding work or educational opportunities. The adults are targeted through project activities, especially Adult Basic Literacy Numeracy (ABLN), transferable skills training, psychosocial support, and community committees and initiatives as needed. The target group is illiterate adults who have not gone to school or have dropped out of primary education. They will mostly be from the refugee community and will usually be the caregivers of the students enrolled in the project activities. 

Assignment:

The assignment involves identifying participants who may benefit from the specialized expertise of the Psychologist and referring their cases accordingly. This process ensures timely intervention, tailored support, and collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the educational experience and outcomes for all learners.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: 

Task #1 – Identification and referral mechanism

-  Identify the psychological needs of the children, youth, and caregivers through observation and the implementation of the internal referral pathways (receiving referrals from the social worker);

-  Identify protection concerns and provide psychosocial support to cases of concern as needed;

-  Collect, analyze, and synthesize information to implement and support intervention methods and techniques.

Task # 2 –Direct Psychological support

- Provide adequate psychological support to the children, youth, and caregivers enrolled in the education program according to the needs identified. The psychologist conducts individual sessions and focus group discussions according to the intervention plan;

- Coordinate and work directly with the social worker and the animators to develop intervention plans and follow-up (suggest the needed sessions to be included in the PSS monthly plan);

-  Keep track of patient numbers/cases through outpatient records;

-  Complete intake assessments, evaluations, treatment recommendations, reviews, and other documentation as necessary;

-   Implement the Child Protection Protocol and follow up with the project’s team members to ensure that the protocol is carefully followed by all members.

Task # 3-Internal / External referrals

- Being and remaining fully informed of all psychological services provided by Amel community centers and Mobile Units through close coordination with other sectors;

-  Contribute to developing a local mapping of the local stakeholders with the Field Officer and the Social Worker to develop Amel’s network and facilitate external referrals. The psychologist is only required to support on the psychological level;

- Each internal/external referral is discussed first with the social worker.

Task #4: Coordination & Monitoring and Evaluation

-  Participate in training and initiate internal meetings in the psychologist’s area of expertise depending on the needs;

- Weekly reports to be shared with the field officer and coordinators. The weekly report includes an exhaustive description of all activities, challenges, needs identified, and the achievements of the week. The psychologist is required to fill the template with all information in a comprehensive way;

-  Submit on a weekly basis the updated table of patients.

The PSychologist may support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities that are not mentioned above, depending on the needs of the education program.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements: 

• Master's Degree in Psychology
• 3 to 5 years of Experience

Working Conditions: 

3 days per week (from 2 pm- to 7 pm)
