About Helem:
Helem, is the first LGBTQIA+ rights organization in the Arab world, officially established in Beirut, Lebanon in 2001. Its mission is to lead the struggle for the liberation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Intersex, Transgendered, Queer (LGBTQIA+) and other people with non-conforming sexualities and/or gender identities in Lebanon and the SWANA region from all sorts of violations of their individual and collective civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. Our goal is to empower young LGBTQIA+ leaders to advocate for their own liberation. We seek to create initiatives and spaces where our communities can leverage unity through diversity and build power. We protect and support individuals with the resources to resist the harm caused by homophobia and transphobia. We empower our youth through education and community building, and we mobilize to change the laws, policies, and practices that deny us equality and reduce our quality of life.

 

Position Overview:

Helem is seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual for a consultancy position of “Human Rights Violations Documentation Trainer”. The position will be responsible for designing and delivering training programs to educate individuals from the MENA region on documenting human rights violations against the LGBTIQ+ community and how to use the data gathered for national and international human rights advocacy. The position will work closely with members of the Advocacy department to deliver in-person trainings and must be able and willing to travel and have a valid passport.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver training programs in-person, online, or in a hybrid format, ensuring the content is engaging and informative.
  2. Prepare a well-structured training outline in addition to handouts and power point pertinent to the topic.
  3. Train the participants on the methods and concepts of the topic.
  4. Train the participants on Helem’s documentation tools and mechanisms.
  5. Develop pre- and post-training questionnaires to assess participant’s knowledge of the topic.
  6. Engage new interactive post-training methods in assessing the participants’ understanding of the topic.
  7. Produce a report by the end of each training, summarizing the outcomes of the training sessions and discussing the results of the pre- and post-training assessments.
  8. Provide tentative action plan in addition to a timeline for the delivery of the trainings.
  9. Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary to meet the needs of participants as well as recent developments in the human rights field and/or regional and national politics relevant to the training content. .
  10. Build strong relationships with trainees and maintain regular communication to provide ongoing support and guidance.
  11. Collaborate with partners to understand their training needs and develop customized and contextualized programs accordingly.
  12. Maintain accurate training records, attendance, and participant feedback for evaluation purposes.
  13. Support the organization's mission and goals by actively engaging in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other relevant activities.

 

Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree in human rights, public policy, international human rights or humanitarian law, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in designing and delivering trainings, preferably related to human rights or LGBTQIA+ issues. A trainer certification is an additional plus.
  3. Familiarity with adult learning theories and instructional design principles to create effective training materials.
  4. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences.
  5. Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure smooth planning and execution of training programs.
  6. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  7. Willingness to travel to trainees' sites as needed to deliver in-person training sessions.
  8. Proficiency with technology and virtual training platforms to conduct online trainings effectively when needed.
  9. Proven high efficiency in developing an interactive, engaging, and creative presentations, including PowerPoint presentation.
  10. Flexibility of work schedule to support delivery.
