About the collective 

The Jesuit Garden Neighborhood Gathering (JGNG) known as LIQAA, is a group of residents in Geitawi that are interested in improving the lives of people and businesses in the neighborhood and taking care of our public spaces. Centered around the Jesuit Public Garden, we hope the community can reconnect to nature, connect to each other and feel a sense of ownership over public spaces. Ultimately, we aim to leave a legacy for future generations.

 

Role/Purpose

The LIQAA is seeking a consultant to carry out a mapping of the Geitawi area and collect data from relevant stakeholders in order to create a map of community assets and resources within the area. Our main interest is to learn the economic situation of the neighborhood, identify potential human innovators (MSMEs), point out potential communal projects of important social relevance and learn about existing ideas to create projects and activities based on their needs.

 

 Deliverables- Specific tasks

  • The consultant will conduct a desk review to look for existing mapping reports.
  • Develop a comprehensive multi sectoral mapping methodology, including tools for data collection and analysis.
  • Design research questions for surveys and focus groups discussions (assets, needs, challenges)
  • Identify key stakeholders and partners for engagement, including local government agencies, and NGOs, CSOs working with key populations to be interviewed.
  • Conduct in depth interviews with relevant stakeholders (data collection).
  • Analyze the collected data and identify the key needs and challenges of the targeted communities across different sectors.
  • Map neighborhood boundaries, risks and opportunities of the area.
  • Prepare a final assessment report summarizing the key findings, priorities and recommendations and for interventions and programs to address the identified needs and challenges.

Minimum required knowledge & experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, development, architecture/urban planning, history, architecture, statistics or other related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in this field/ livelihood sector
  • Previous experience in drafting research questions, conducting needs assessment interviews and focus group discussions 
  • Experience in data collection and data analysis.
  • Knowledge in drafting reports based on data analysis.
  • Experience working or volunteering in direct contact with community members.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage with community members in an open manner, maintain confidentiality and respect.
  • Ability to communicate in English/Arabic and write clear and concise reports in English/Arabic.
  • Experience working with NGO’s is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of basic computer programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and data collection tools.

The researcher/Consultant should send:

  • Concept note for the proposed methodology including potential techniques and tools to be used.
  • Suggested timeline.
  • Detailed budget to undertake the different activities mentioned in the timeline
