Prison Psychologist

Mental health professionals play an extensive role in the treatment and rehabilitation of survivors of torture. Additionally, they play a role in the prevention of torture through the psychological evaluation of the allegation of torture and reporting of findings to be used for legal procedures to fight impunity.

Forensic Psychologist Responsibilities:

• Assesses psychological symptoms & disorders among persons deprived of their liberty referred by the team.
• Prepares a treatment plan for each detainee and adjusts it if/when needed.
• Conducts individual therapy sessions with detainees to address symptoms and measuring their treatment progress.
• Submits record sheets for each session conducted with the beneficiary.
• Submits a discharge plan for each beneficiary who has completed the course of treatment.
• Submits mental health reports upon request.
• Submits follow-up checklists and beneficiary lists on a monthly basis using pre-assigned templates.
• Participates in team meetings, seminars, peer supervisions, case studies and capacity building opportunities. 
• Participates in care-for-caregivers activities (including debriefing sessions). 
• Attends individual supervision sessions with Restart Center’s Clinical Advisor (once per month). 
• Follows Restart Center’s policies and bylaws.
• Examines all signs and sequelae of psychological torture and ill-treatment. 
• Compiles reports and completes documentation in compliance with applicable standards and procedures (namely, the Istanbul Protocol - Manual on the Effective Investigation and Documentation of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment).
