The Foundational Skills facilitator (FS Facilitator) will be delivering the foundational skills curriculum in Akkarouna learning centers. The FS program targets youths aged between 15-24 years old who haven’t enrolled in formal education or are out-of-school for a period of more than 3 years and who lack the basic numeracy and literacy skills. The FS facilitator will implement the FS curriculum by adopting the standard curriculum and manuals prepared by Akkarouna in the classrooms and perform other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by Akkarouna, thereby providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment in which each individual achieves his or her full potential.

Akkarouna  is recruiting facilitators to deliver the following topics: literacy, Numeracy, and Life Skills. Please indicate your preferences for the topic (Arabic. Math, Life Skills, or English) and location (Akkar or T5)  in the application.

  1. Relationships
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Counseling Officer, FSL Officer.
  • Report educational and administrative updates in the learning centre to the Counseling Officer.
  1. Particular Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Akkarouna’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies and procedures;
  • Maintain a Youth-friendly and safe learning environment in the classrooms and the centre following positive discipline practices in accordance with the Akkarouna’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies;
  • To create conducive teaching learning environment where youth get foundational skills sessions as per agreed plan;
  • Ensure that Youth and adults feel comfortable, safe and respected;
  • Monitor and evaluate youth learning progress and welfare;
  • Maintain a well-organized teaching area which displays youth work and has accessible resources;
  • Control and oversee the use and storage of all resources and equipment at the end of the day;
  • Demonstrate and encourage non-discriminatory working practices;
  • Supervise youth and adults upon arriving and leaving the learning centres and classrooms;
  • Ensure classrooms are organised and any accidental damage is reported to supervisor;
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant and mandatory meetings and trainings provided by Akkarouna or other stakeholders;
  • Join the coaching sessions organized by the Counseling Officer and participate in team meetings.
  • Cooperate and support the monitoring and evaluation process of the FS activities with a particular focus on learning outcomes.
  • Commit to Akkarouna’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

 

    3. Curriculum 

  • The foundational skills facilitator is accountable to implement the foundational skills and life skills curriculum.
  • The post-holder will share challenges and successes during the implementation of the curriculum with the Counseling Officer, FSL Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Teaching experience.
  • Diploma in Teaching is an advantage;
  • Good understanding of quality education, inclusive and active learning methods and willingness to continuously update his/her skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English;
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context

Desirable:

  • Prior teaching experience preferably targeting students between the age of 15 to 24 years old;
  • Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO.
