The MHPSS Officer is responsible for supporting the MHPSS component of a sizable health project in the South of Syria.
The MHPSS Officer is part of the Lebanon/Syria field office and reports to the MHPSS Technical Coordinator whose based in Lebanon.

The European Commission’s European Civil protection and Humanitarian aid Operations (ECHO), funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nation agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channeled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

The Social Worker will be based in the Baawerta, Mount Lebanon Protection Community Center, and will be responsible for implementing the GBV awareness-raising online sessions and supervising the SRH awareness-raising, and Advocacy at the community level online activities. Under the supervision of the GBV Officer and protection program manager, He/She will ensure that the projects’ objectives are met following donor requirements – adhere to strict timelines, ensure the production of quality of services, ensure that the project outcomes are sustained and continually drive innovation.

Years of war in Syria have pushed millions from their homes and into poverty, and millions more have become refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and further afield. Equally complex is the emergency in Iraq, where waves of fighting and displacement have overwhelmed infrastructure and services and pushed communities to the brink. The economic, social, and health effects of these dual crises have changed the entire region.

Eight years into the Syria crisis, Lebanon remains the country hosting the largest number of refugees per capita, with nearly 950,000 Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR, about 20,000 refugees of other origins - mostly Iraqi - and Palestine refugees under UNRWA’s mandate. There are no formal camps for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and refugees are living in hundreds of communities and locations across the country.
