Youth Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution Facilitator

Key Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate Workshops and Training:

  • Design and deliver engaging workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions on topics such as conflict resolution, peacebuilding, emotional regulation, communication, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and character building.
  • Focus on fostering values such as integrity, respect, responsibility, and accountability, which are essential for developing strong character and contributing to a peaceful society.
  • Lead discussions and activities around the importance of character in personal growth and social change, with a particular focus on positive masculinity and healthy emotional expression.

2. Promote Soft Skills Development:

  • Teach and implement core soft skills including active listening, empathy, critical thinking, decision-making, negotiation, cultural sensitivity, and non-violent problem solving.
  • Conduct role-plays, group exercises, and activities to encourage the practical application of these skills in real-life scenarios.

3. Character Building and Ethical Leadership:

  • Guide youth in cultivating a strong personal character by emphasizing values such as honesty, self-discipline, and ethical decision-making.
  • Provide mentorship on becoming responsible, positive role models for their peers and communities.
  • Address the impact of toxic masculinity and guide young people—especially men and boys—on how to express their emotions healthily, challenge harmful stereotypes, and respect the rights and dignity of all individuals, particularly women.

4. Empower Women and Promote Gender Equality:

  • Lead initiatives that specifically address the role of women in society, highlighting their leadership potential and advocating for equal opportunities.
  • Create safe spaces for young women to express themselves, voice their concerns, and develop leadership skills.
  • Promote gender equality through discussions on the importance of women’s participation in peacebuilding, leadership, and decision-making at all levels.
  • Encourage youth to critically examine and challenge traditional gender norms, emphasizing mutual respect and collaboration across genders.

5. Counter Toxic Masculinity:

  • Lead discussions and activities focused on countering toxic masculinity, emphasizing respect, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • Provide a platform for young men and boys to explore their identity and challenge harmful behaviors like aggression, dominance, and emotional suppression.
  • Encourage the development of positive masculinity that supports peaceful conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and the dismantling of gender-based violence and stereotypes.
  • Work with male participants to address how harmful gender norms contribute to societal violence, and offer alternative approaches to masculinity rooted in equality, respect, and cooperation.

6. Conflict Resolution and Mediation:

  • Guide youth through conflict resolution strategies and mediation techniques, helping them navigate disagreements and find peaceful solutions.
  • Provide one-on-one support to youth involved in conflicts, offering guidance and mentoring in resolving interpersonal issues, with a focus on peaceful and respectful dialogue.

7. Build Social Cohesion and Empowerment:

  • Foster a sense of belonging and unity among youth from diverse and marginalized backgrounds, promoting understanding and respect for cultural and gender differences.
  • Encourage collaboration and teamwork, helping youth develop leadership skills and take active roles in community-based peacebuilding efforts.

8. Youth Engagement and Support:

  • Actively engage with youth participants to understand their unique challenges and needs, providing mentorship and guidance to help them overcome obstacles.
  • Support youth in setting personal goals for growth, resilience, character development, and positive social change.

9. Community Integration:

  • Collaborate with local leaders, community organizations, and stakeholders to promote the program and ensure its relevance to the needs of the community.
  • Organize community-based initiatives and projects that encourage youth to apply their learning in real-world settings, promoting both youth and women’s leadership in local peacebuilding efforts.

10. Monitor and Evaluate Progress:

  • Regularly assess the progress and impact of the workshops and activities through feedback, surveys, and group discussions.
  • Adjust and tailor sessions to meet the evolving needs of participants and maximize the effectiveness of the program.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • A degree or relevant qualification in social work, psychology, education, international relations, peace and conflict studies, gender studies, or a related field.
  • Certifications in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, or youth development are a plus.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in facilitating workshops, training sessions, or group activities, particularly with youth in conflict-affected or marginalized communities.
  • Strong understanding of conflict resolution, peacebuilding, character development, gender equality, and the impacts of toxic masculinity.
  • Experience in working with diverse groups of youth, especially those from vulnerable or marginalized backgrounds.

Skills:

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to create a safe, respectful, and participatory learning environment.
  • High emotional intelligence, including empathy and the ability to connect with youth from varied backgrounds.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and collaboration in group settings.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple sessions and activities.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the empowerment of women, gender equality, and the deconstruction of toxic masculinity in peacebuilding and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in conflict mediation or as a youth counselor.
  • Familiarity with community-based participatory approaches and grassroots peacebuilding efforts.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating youth programs or initiatives.
  • Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in English or other regional languages is a plus.
