Sport Teacher

The Sport Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education and sports training to students, creating a supportive and engaging environment that promotes physical fitness and well-being. This role involves adherence to LOST’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies, commitment to the organization’s values, and collaboration with education staff to address the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities

Adherence to Policies

• Familiarize yourself with and adhere to LOST’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Ensure these policies are effectively implemented within the sports and physical education settings.

Discipline and Conduct

• Implement and maintain positive discipline practices in line with LOST’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Agreements.
• Address behavioral issues in a constructive and supportive manner during sports activities.

Commitment to Values

• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to LOST’s aims, values, and principles, including rights-based approaches to education and sports.
• Promote these values through interactions with students and colleagues.

Teaching Environment

• Create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment that encourages student participation in physical activities.
• Organize and manage sports equipment and facilities effectively.

Curriculum Implementation

• Implement the physical education curriculum as directed by the Head of Sports Department and Education Coordinator.
• Plan and deliver sports and fitness lessons that meet curriculum requirements and cater to students’ varying abilities.

Student Well-being

• Ensure that students feel safe, respected, and valued during sports activities.
• Address any issues related to bullying, discrimination, or harassment promptly and appropriately.

Individualized Teaching

• Adapt sports teaching methods and activities to accommodate diverse skill levels and physical abilities.
• Provide additional support to students who need help in developing their physical skills and fitness.

Progress Monitoring

• Regularly assess and evaluate students’ progress in physical education through observations and performance metrics.
• Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their athletic skills and physical fitness.

Non-Discriminatory Practices

• Model and encourage non-discriminatory and inclusive practices in all aspects of sports education.
• Promote respect and understanding among students in sports activities.

Classroom and Facility Management

• Ensure sports facilities and equipment are well-maintained and organized.
• Report any damage or maintenance issues to the appropriate staff.

Diverse Learning Needs

• Identify and address various physical abilities and learning styles among students.
• Implement strategies to ensure all students can achieve their physical education goals.

Key Tasks

Lesson Planning and Delivery

• Develop detailed lesson plans for sports and physical education activities.
• Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that promote physical activity, teamwork, and skill development.

Assessment and Reporting

• Conduct regular assessments of student performance and physical progress.
• Maintain accurate records of student achievements and areas for improvement.
• Prepare and submit progress reports as required.

Student Support

• Provide individualized support and coaching to students as needed.
• Address student queries and concerns related to physical education promptly and empathetically.

Collaboration

• Work collaboratively with the Head of Sports Department, Education Coordinator, and other staff members.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other relevant activities.

Facility Maintenance

• Regularly check and maintain sports equipment and facilities.
• Ensure the sports environment is clean, organized, and conducive to physical activities.

Parent/Guardian Communication

• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress in physical education.
• Engage in parent-teacher meetings and provide updates on students’ athletic achievements.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.

Professional Experience

Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching physical education or coaching sports.

Experience with Youth

Proven experience working with adolescents and/or youth in a sports or educational setting.

Skills

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to motivate and engage students in physical activities.

Certifications

Relevant sports coaching or physical education certifications are desirable.

Familiarization with, and adherence to, the code of conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training. All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause .
