General Purpose of the Position

Under the direct supervision of the Country MHPSS Officer and Project Director, the Clinical Psychologist is responsible for utilizing standard assessment tools, providing structured clinical assessments, developing treatment plans with clear objectives, monitoring progress, offering clinical supervision, and leading trainings. S/he may also lead group support sessions and engage in outreach activities. The Clinical Psychologist monitors MHPSS implementation, assesses cases referred by JRS MHPSS or educational team, and ensures coordination between them to achieve case objectives.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

1.Sensitization and Capacity Building for JRS Staff

  • Conducts sessions on Psychological First Aid;
  • Conducts sessions on how to support persons in distress, children with behavioural challenges;
  • Conducts sessions on self-care and stress managing;
  • Conducts bimonthly social workers' meetings and provides ongoing support;
  • Develops PSS programs addressing the changing needs of JRS projects.

2.Diagnose and Treat Mental Health Cases

  • Provides appropriate mental health support and treatment through individual counselling, PSS sessions, and psycho-education to all people in needs;
  • Works directly with the MHPSS team to develop individualized intervention plans following the case management model and follow-up with the schools;
  • Participates in case discussion with the Country MHPSS Officer regarding all the cases s/he is following with them.

3.Outreaching Activities and Networking

  • Builds a network with MHPSS representatives to refer cases based on their needs to case management units or various types of therapy (speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, etc.);
  • Receives referrals from the social workers, caregivers and education team to provide them sessions and follow-up based on a fixed schedule at JRS;
  • Conducts field visits to provide MHPSS awareness sessions for the children or caregiver and to support the education team.

4.Staff Care for JRS Staff

  • Coaches social workers in their places of work;
  • Collaborates with external experts;
  • Plans workshops with external experts for JRS staff.

5.Reporting and Documentation

  • Reports on weekly progress to the Country MHPSS Officer;
  • Monitors the psychological progress of the case, review cases with the Country MHPSS Officer and refers cases to specialized services when required (speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, etc.);
  • Participates in weekly meetings with the MHPSS team, during which cases will be discussed and support and supervision will be provided by the Country MHPSS Officer;
  • Conducts monthly meeting with the education team;
  • Files the documents in an organized and efficient manner to facilitate the review of cases;
  • Ensures efficient data collection by filling in the MHPSS database daily (assessment form, follow-up form).

Qualifications, Skills, and Personal Attributes

  • A Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology with a clear practicum path (at least 500 hours);
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Ability to develop rapport with the case;
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
  • Ability to adhere to ethical considerations and principles concerning work;
  • Ability to provide structured clinical assessments and clear case formulation;
  • Ability to develop a consistent and acceptable treatment plan with clear objectives;
  • Experience providing clinical supervision or leading trainings is a plus.
