In partnership with AMEL Association International, AND will be supplementing SRH activities to be provided in static and mobile safe spaces for women and adolescent girls. These spaces provide holistic services focusing on psychosocial support, violence prevention, self-empowerment, and social cohesion to diverse vulnerable populations, including women and girls, and survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV), torture and trauma.

AND is seeking the expertise of a midwife to strengthen its GBV intervention in the different locations of Akkar.

Areas of responsibility:

The Midwife is expected to support women and their families in sexual and reproductive health related matters, conduct awareness sessions, undertake personal consultations and process referrals when needed.  The midwife is expected to work in mobile and static settings based on the needs deriving from the communities. The midwife is expected to work in close coordination with the project manager, protection officers, community mobilizer and case management supervisor.

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provision of awareness sessions on family planning, sexual and reproductive health, personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene and contraceptives, maternal and prenatal and antenatal health/care, comprehension of neonatal care, female genital mutilation, sexually transmitted and reproductive tract infections, infertility and more topics as deemed necessary.
  • Conducting personal counseling sessions as per the needs of the participants.
  • Coordinating closely with the case workers and the project management team.
  • Collaborating with relevant actors in case of SGBV survivors when needed
  • Provision of general recommendations to caregivers
  • Guiding new parents in the daily care for their newborns, helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death
  • Informing mothers about the importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices, as well as needed documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card…)
  • Ensuring respect of participants’ rights to privacy and confidentiality
  • Ensuring timely referral for cases in need of medical support, while avoiding provision of medical advice and/or provision of medication and/or prescriptions
  • Perform all activities in compliance with the relevant protocols and best practices
  • Adhere to AND code of conduct

 Education & Experience

 

Midwife degree or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

Experience with NGO is a plus

Midwife should also be familiar with the GBV core concept and safe identification and referral process.
