The Opportunity

The Advocacy and Media Coordinator will work closely with Child Rights Governance (CRG), Program Development and Quality (PDQ) and Award Management and Business Development (AMBD) colleagues, supporting child protection, education, and child poverty related advocacy and communications in a highly complex context in a situation of national crisis. 

The Coordinator will support the Advocacy Media and Communications Senior Manager in the development of the Country Office Advocacy Strategy, plans and messages with the Lebanon ACCM team, seeking input and support from the Save the Children International regional and global Humanitarian Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns. In coordination with technical specialists, the Senior Manager draft or commission regular advocacy products, including regular reports on areas of strategic interest and focus for the Lebanon Country Office, as per the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and other strategic documents.

The Coordinator will also lead on the delivery of the advocacy and media to national partners and provide technical support in development of their advocacy strategies. The Coordinator will effectively manage media relations and spokesperson in English and Arabic. They will develop networks and reactive grids for media messaging and lead on the training and coordination of spokespersons in the Country Office and partners at national and governate level.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Degree in Social Science, Journalism & Media or related field, or relevant years of professional experience in the field.
  • Fluency in Writing and Presentation skills in English required
  • At least 3 years experience in a humanitarian or development environment, preferably leading advocacy and/or communications initiatives in the Middle East.
  • A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in progressively responsible positions at senior management levels.
  • Substantial experience in supporting the development of advocacy strategies towards clearly articulated change agendas.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Excellent skills in advocating towards different stakeholders and audiences 
  • Strong skills in developing and implementing advocacy strategies
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of child rights and international humanitarian law
  • Understanding of UN and donor operations at country level
  • Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people
