Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to have a team member who can support, coordinate and supervise international alert peacebuilding projects related to gender equality and climate change in Lebanon. The Senior Project Officer will oversee project activities, coordinate with project partners, and provide technical expertise to inform the projects. S/He will work closely with the senior management team and officers by providing specialist professional or technical expertise in the interpretation and operational application of peace building projects, with particular emphasis on gender and climate change to achieve strategic objectives. S/He will be responsible for ensuring the quality and effective delivery of the projects, maintaining relationships and communication with local partners and authorities related to the projects.

 

S/He also will be expected to demonstrate commitment to Alert’s values and ethics, key peacebuilding, Do No Harm and conflict sensitivity principals as well a safeguarding best practice and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate project activities

 

  • Support the implementation of activities within projects as required.
  • Assist project managers in reviewing and maintaining a detailed action plan and budget forecast, ensuring activities are implemented as planned.
  • Follow-up with local organizations on the delivery of peacebuilding initiatives in accordance with agreed plans.
  • Represent International Alert in meetings and events in coordination with the Country Director.
  • Ensure the effective recording, documentation, and filing of projects activities, internal and external projects meetings.
  • Assist in preparing donor reports and project completion reports, including financial reports.
  • Engage with stakeholders, local authorities, and relevant organizations working on climate change, gender and peace building to support Alert's projects and activities, maintaining positive working relations.
  • Build and regularly update list of stakeholders and partners.
  • Assist in supervising consultants to conduct trainings, coaching sessions and finalized deliverable.
  • Support on advocacy events and conferences.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Communications Officer, ensure that evidence and learning generated through projects are shared with key stakeholders and inform policy and programmes on gender, Climate change and peace building.

 

Climate change and peacebuilding strategy:

 

  • Support on the development of Alert Climate change, gender and peacebuilding strategy in Lebanon, in close coordination with the Senior management team.
  • Use evidence, data and lessons generated from past and current projects related to Climate change to inform strategy and programme development.

 

Project design, monitoring and evaluation:

 

  • Contribute to and develop ideas for new projects, building upon the impact achieved by existing projects.
  • Together with the MEL Manager and Project Managers, set up monitoring and evaluation plans, and ensure monitoring data is collected as planned.
  • Monitor project progress and impact and adjust indicators and activities if necessary.
  • Support project evaluations, ensuring appropriate management responses if necessary.
  • Disseminate findings of evaluations and ongoing monitoring and lessons learned internally and externally.

 

 

Contribute to Alert strategies and policies:

 

  • Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge management, and participate in organization-wide events and discussions on related topics/projects.
  • Contribute to the review and strengthening of organizational gender mainstreaming, protection policies and processes.
  • Represent Alert’s values and ideas and be a spokesperson for the organisation at relevant conferences, seminars and other meetings and online events.
  • Contribute to organisation-wide learning and exchange on the use of dialogue as methodology for gender, security and peacebuilding.

 

Travel requirements

This position is based in Beirut with travel to Alert’s areas of operation (Bekaa, Tripoli and Mount Lebanon).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or other related fields.
  • Experience in managing community projects that focus on the peace, gender and conflict nexus.
  • At least 5 years of successful experience of implementing or coordinating projects; including working directly with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the Lebanese context and root causes of conflict.

Fluent in Arabic and English and communicates clearly and effectively.

Organization and coordination of programmes activities

  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven people management skills.
  • Proven financial management skills.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others.
  • A team player.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take initiative and work pro-actively with management.
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of International Alert.

Desirable requirements 

  • Knowledge and experience in the peacebuilding sector.
  • Dialogue and practical conflict management experience a strong plus.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of programme cycle management, information management and reporting.

SUMMARY TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

Annual Salary Competitive annual salary based on our salary scale for Lebanese nationals

Benefits Private Medical insurance and NSSF

Leave entitlement 25 working days per year plus Lebanon statutory holidays.

Working hours  Full time staff are expected to work a standard 40 hours per week,  a maximum of 48 hours per week, with some flexibility around start and finish times to be agreed with the line manager. All staff are required to work core hours 10am – 4pm.
