1. Background
About Amel Association International
Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979. Amel works through 32 centers, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units and 1 protection unit, and for more than 40 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence, livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights and rural development.
2. Information on the proposed development project
Project title: Kunu Antou
Project objective: To ensure the right to quality education of 150 vulnerable girls and boys, at risk of drop out, living in the Haret Hreik area (Mount Lebanon). The project also supports girls' education, adopting a community-based approach, ensuring that members from the local community, in particular women and girls, have skills and influence to promote the right to education for all.
Sector: Education sector with an integrated approach (strong linkages with the Protection sector) to ensure a holistic intervention.
Duration of the project: 18 months
Planned project site: Haret Hreik area (Mount Lebanon)
Brief description of the project:
The Kunu Antou project was launched in 2019 to offer quality education services to the most vulnerable children living in the vicinity of the Amel center in Haret Hreik with the implementation of the following outputs:
- The learning performances of 150 vulnerable girls and boys at risk of school dropout are improved;
- The environment of 150 vulnerable girls and boys is more conducive to learning and supportive for girls' education;
- Engage the community in the promotion of an equal access to education for all.
Through the completion of these objectives, the project aims to empower the most vulnerable children in their learning journey through their successful school retention. With the support of a larger group of community members (children, youths, adults), the Kunu Antou team will have a positive impact on the whole community and strengthen the right to quality education for all, with a particular focus on girls’ access to education.
3. The Trainer
3.1. Role and Responsibilities of the Trainer
The trainer will be responsible for:
- Perform a literature review on the existing toolkits promoting gender sensitive pedagogy;
- Develop a training package on the gender-responsive pedagogy, taking into consideration the existing toolkits developed for teachers and schools;
- Perform a needs assessment to the team members and develop the needed training sessions accordingly;
- Develop a detailed outline and describe methodologies for facilitating the training package and share it with Amel Association International;
- After the approval of the outline (agenda) and methodology by the Education coordinators, facilitate the training to the educators of the Kunu Antou project during one month;
- Develop pre-test and post-test forms as well as feedback mechanism for the purpose of evaluation of the training and the result must be depicted in the final report of the training;
- Develop a 2nd version of the training package after revision and taking into account the feedback;
- Develop a ToT training package and deliver it to the educators in order to guarantee a sustainable capacity building among all educators.
3.2. Methodology and Work plan
The gender responsive pedagogy trainer will be working on the following levels:
- Literature review and needs assessment;
- Preparation of the training package;
- Provision of the training package;
- Collection of feedbacks;
- Revision of the training package;
- Preparation of revised version plus a ToT package; Delivery of the ToT training.
The timeline for the tasks will be set with the Amel’s team and follow the following approximate timeframe:
Frame 1:
- April, 3rd 2023: Induction phase
- April, 14th 2023: Submission of the literature review on gender responsive pedagogy toolkits
- April, 25th: submission of the needs assessments action plan with the relevant data collection tools
- April 27th – May 10th: Needs assessment phase
- May, 15th: submission of the needs assessment report coupled with the recommendations to be followed for designing the training package
- June 15th 2023: Submission of the first gender responsive training package based on the existing Toolkits
- June 30th: Submission of the training package based on Amel’s feedback
- July, 1st week 2023: Provision of the training package for the Kunu Antou educators (Haret Hreik)
- July, 2nd week: Submission of a report containing the feedback and recommendations collected during the delivery of the training.
Frame 2:
- July – December 2023: implementation phase
- Jan, 8th to 19th 2024: Review the training package based on the feedbacks
- Jan, 19th 2024: Submission of the revised training package
- Jan, 22th to Feb, 29th 2024: Development of ToT training package
- Mar, 1st 2024: Submission of the ToT training package
- Mar, 4th to 15th 2024: Provision of the ToT training Mar, 18th to 22th 2023: Collection of feedbacks
- Mar, 29th 2024: Submission of the final report.
3.3. Profile and requirements
Amel seeks an experienced trainer with the following requirements:
- Education: At least Masters’ degree or equivalent in law, social science, gender or another relevant field;
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in gender mainstreaming or another relevant field;
- At least 3 years of teaching / training / coaching experience;
- At least 2 years of teaching / training / coaching experience in the field of gender mainstreaming or another relevant field;
- Relevant professional experience in research and development of education material.
