The baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) external assessor, in coordination with MoPH, will assess the hospital practices of the ten steps to successful breastfeeding and compliance with the International Code and the Lebanese Law 47/2008 to become accredited as Baby friendly Hospitals. The external assessors should be health professionals trained in a 40-h course accredited as BFHI evaluators by the Ministry of Public Health.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Prepare the necessary tools for the external assessment (assessment checklist, interview questionnaire…)
- Contact the candidate hospital to schedule the assessment visit on a convenient date.
- Coordinate the visits with the relevant stakeholders (Mother and child health department (MOPH), BFHI monitor, IYCF coordinator, project officer…)
- Visit the candidate hospital and verify, the compliance with the BFHI ten steps, the International Code of marketing and the Lebanese Law 47/2008.
- Conduct interviews with the Hospital Director, Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Midwives, Nursing staff at the maternity unit, NICU and antenatal clinic.
- Conduct interviews with mothers in antenatal clinic, labor room, post-natal ward, and neonatal intensive care unit.
- Observe the implementation of the BFHI clinical steps in the health facility including compliance with the Lebanese law 47/2008.
- Review relevant hospital records, hospital’s BFHI policy and procedures.
- Analyze the BFHI indicators monthly/quarterly percentages.
- Prepare a summary report of the assessment demonstrating the hospitals' adherence to the 10 steps.
- Share the assessment report with the hospital’s administrator and the relevant stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Native Arabic speaker is necessary
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong persuasion skills
- Knowledge of various training methods and approaches.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams etc.
- Received the 40 hours course and accredited as BFHI evaluator by the Ministry of Public Health
Experience:
- Prior experience as a trainer or a similar position
Working Conditions
Willingness to use personal car and travel to the hospitals when needed
