Job Title: Senior Projects Officer, Syria Programme
Reports to: Syria Programme Manager
Job location: The post holder should have the right to work in the UK, or in a country where Alert has an office.
Annual Salary Competitive annual salary based on organisational salary scale and place of residence.
Contract Duration: One year with possibility of extension
Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to take a leading role in the implementation and coordination of peacebuilding projects related to the Syria conflict. You will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of complex peacebuilding projects, with multiple stakeholders in multiple countries. You will also be responsible for supporting the growth and sustainability of the Syria Programme over the longer term by helping to identify and develop opportunities to consolidate and expand Alert’s peacebuilding work in Syria and the wider Middle East region.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Implementation and Coordination
- Maintain and oversee the execution of project workplans for Syria projects.
- Monitor and ensure quality control of activities.
- Engage with key interlocutors and stakeholders including donors, peacebuilding agencies, partners, and project participants through individual meetings and through project activities.
- Support project research efforts and contribute to project advocacy and outreach.
- Support logistics and undertake event and meeting management duties, as required.
- Support grant and contract management as required
- Interact individually or with colleagues at an intermediate level to represent the project(s).
- Support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and reporting processes
- Working with Alert’s MEL Managers, support the collection and processing of relevant information to feed into MEL and other reporting processes for Syria projects
- Assist in preparing donor reports and project completion reports, in coordination with partners and colleagues and ensuring compliance with donor compliance
- Assist in monitoring project progress against impact indicators and take part in adjusting indicators and activities if necessary;
- Disseminate findings of ongoing monitoring and any lessons learned internally and externally.

- Project Design and Fundraising
- Support the development of new areas of work, both geographic and thematic, creating the space for staff and partners to work together to construct and take forward new project ideas.
- Assist in the identification of potential funding sources for our work, and the development of excellent relationships with existing and potential funders.
- Support project design and fundraising, including writing funding proposals in coordination with fundraising staff.

- Programme and Strategy Development
- Assist the Syria Programme Manager in identifying and developing opportunities to consolidate and expand Alert’s work on Syria including developing concept notes, donor mapping and outreach, and partnership development.
- Support the development of a new multi-year strategy for Alert’s work on Syria.
- Deputise for the Syria Programme Manager, as required

- Contribute to Alert more generally.

- Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge sharing, and participate in organisation-wide events and discussions on related topics/projects;
- Represent Alert’s values and ideas and be a spokesperson for the organisation at relevant conferences, seminars and other meetings, including at a high level;
- Contribute to organisation-wide learning and exchange
- Any other tasks as may be reasonably required.

Travel requirements
This post may require some international travel, COVID-19 restrictions permitting.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
We are looking for a highly professional individual who has experience of working on peacebuilding projects related to Syria and/or the Middle East. You must be able to demonstrate a high level of conflict sensitivity and have a good awareness and understanding of multi-track diplomacy and peace processes. Experience and knowledge of the Syria conflict, including the political process would be a great asset. You will also have experience of facilitating dialogues with a variety of stakeholders.
You should be highly collaborative and open to new ideas and ways of working. You should have a demonstrable ability to problem solve and look for opportunities in challenges and set backs. You should value diversity and be willing to actively contribute to a positive and forward-looking team and organisational culture.
The Syria programme requires someone who is fluent in Arabic and English. Additional languages are an asset.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience and knowledge of the Syria peace process
Understanding of peacebuilding issues in relation to the Syria conflict
Knowledge and experience of M&E in the peacebuilding sector

Benefits Dependent on country of residence
Leave entitlement 25working days per year plus country of residence statutory holidays.
Notice period There will be an initial three months probationary period during which notice will be 15 days on either side. On successful completion of the probationary period notice will be one month.
Working hours Full time staff are expected to work a standard 40 hours per week, a maximum of 48 hours per week, with some flexibility around start and finish times to be agreed with the line manager. All staff are required to work core hours 10am – 4pm.
