Social Worker

General Purpose of the position:

The Social Worker is the Focal Point for Protection in JRS Bourj Hammoud. He/ She takes care of the psycho-social support for vulnerable groups. He/ She reports to and coordinates with the MHPSS Project Director.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

1- Protection Focal Point

• The Social Worker is the focal point for Protection in each activity he/she is assigned to and is responsible for the development and implementation of protection policies with special attention to vulnerable people.
• Takes special care of vulnerable and high risk children, adolescents and adults among the people we serve.
• Supports the Team in tasks related to all Protection Issues arising in the School and in Outreach.

2-Psychosocial Support

• Provides basic counselling to less complex cases.
• Facilitates access and referral for cases of trauma and high-risk to competent professionals.
• Accompanies and collaborates with the Home Visits Team to reach out to the families and persons affected by Beirut Blast.
• Elaborates an action plan, together with the Project Director, resulting from this needs assessment.
• Conducts Assessments and awareness sessions.
• Organizes support groups to assist the persons affected by Beirut Blast in understanding, dealing with and coping with their situations, in collaboration with other staff members.
• Organizes a needs assessment of the people we serve.

3-Communication and Programming

• Cultivates and facilitates contact with local organizations related to the position, in close collaboration with the MHPSS Project Director
• Analyzes the needs of persons affected by Beirut Blast and suggest new initiatives to the MHPSS Project Director.
• Elaborates an action plan, together with the MHPSS Project Director and the other Social Workers of the Centres, resulting from a needs assessment.
• Conducts rapid assessment, selects most vulnerable families for distribution, organizes distribution, and makes sure about the availability of the supporting document, in collaboration with MHPSS Project Director.
• Update monthly the excel sheet with names of vulnerable families who would need multipurpose cash assistance and upload it to the de-duplication system when assigned by the MHPSS Project Director.
• Attends regularly coordination groups when assigned by the MHPSS Project Director.

Ensures prompt execution of other tasks which are within the ambit of the position which may be requested by the MHPSS Project Director as needs occur.

Qualifications & Competencies:

• Bachelor Degree in Social Work or any other related field.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of working with children.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of casework.
• Experience in working with forcibly displaced people is a plus.

• Fluency in Arabic is required.
