Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN) Support Facilitators
ROLE PURPOSE: The BLN Support Facilitator will provide Support Classes to students after school hours. Classes are for children who are enrolled in Public Schools but who have been identified as needing extra support or children who are at risk of dropping out of school. The Facilitator will carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by Save the Children, thereby providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment in which each individual student achieves his or her full potential.
The BLN Support Facilitator will be receiving $10 / session
SCOPE OF ROLE:
The responsibilities of the post will require the postholder to have regular contact with children or young people.
Staff directly reporting to this post: NA.
Reports to: Education Assistant - The postholder is accountable to Save the Children’s Education Assistants for his/her teaching duties and responsibilities.

PARTICULAR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To understand and comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
- To commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles, including rights-based approaches.
- To follow the rules and regulations of the learning center/school.
- To maintain positive discipline practices in accordance with the Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Agreements.
- To commit to and participate in capacity building opportunities offered by Save the Children.
- To create a conducive teaching learning environment (in line with the SCI format) where the students receive quality education and where they feel comfortable, safe and respected.
- To respect the school premises (ensuring classrooms are tidy and any accidental damage is reported to the Teacher Supervisor immediately).
- To maintain a well-organized classroom which displays children’s work and has readily accessible resources.
- To control and oversee the use and storage of all resources and equipment at the end of the day.
- To implement the HWS schedule set by SCI under the supervision of the Education Assistant.
- To prepare a scheme of work, lessons, lesson plans and schedules on a weekly and monthly basis according to SCI’s formats and commit to implement the schedule.
- To teach students of the learning center/school either from a specific class or any class as assigned by SCI Education staff.
- To effectively manage the classroom, including by implementing appropriate positive discipline strategies to manage student behavior, and use varied, child-centered and age-appropriate techniques for instructions (including strategies suitable for large class size and multi-level or multi grade student groups if relevant).
- To teach according to students’ diverse learning needs and encourage participation of all children without discrimination regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, culture, religion or learning ability.
- To monitor and evaluate the students’ progress and wellbeing; to record learning outcomes to monitor students’ progress towards meeting objectives and use this to address the needs of his/her students.
- To conduct and submit evaluations (ASER tool) and other reports/tools as requested.
- To conduct registration of students at the start of the cycle and monitor and keep record of students’ attendance on a daily basis.
- To follow up on the absentees and drop outs through home visits, phone calls, and meeting parents etc., also supported and coordinated by SCI team.
- To facilitate positive parenting sessions for caregivers and conduct monthly meetings with caregivers to follow up on students’ progress.
- To demonstrate non-discriminatory working practices and to encourage this in others.
- To liaise with Save the Children staff on internal issues. This includes attendance of meetings organized and to cooperate with monitoring, providing information or reports if requested by Save the Children.
- Curriculum : The facilitator will be asked to facilitate specific subjects of the HWS schedule (i.e. Arabic, English, Maths or other key subjects).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Teaching experience;
Diploma in Teaching is an advantage;
Fluent in Arabic (written and oral) and strong French or English language skills;
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
