SMEX’s Digital Safety Helpdesk aims to elevate the digital safety capabilities of users in Lebanon and other Arabic-speaking countries through digital safety tips, rapid response to digital attacks, and threat mitigation.

SMEX is recruiting a Digital Safety Helpdesk Coordinator that will handle digital safety incidents and provide logistical support to the SMEX team.

At SMEX, we are looking for an in-house technologist to join our team. He or She will be working with a senior technologist on developing the technology within SMEX.

This is a part-time position that requires good understanding of the digital rights scene in the Arab region and globally.

SMEX is looking for an Event Manager to lead and implement Bread&Net, the annual SMEX unconference on digital rights in the MENA region. The manager will be responsible for organizing and hosting the 2021 edition of Bread&Net which will take place around November/December.

We are looking for someone enthusiastic to draft and oversee the network’s framework, processes, and implementation in the aim of creating active and functional networks across the Middle East and North Africa region.

This is a consultancy that requires expertise in building networks and some knowledge about the digital rights scene in the region and the world.

The research manager is a mid-level position that oversees all aspects of SMEX digital rights research projects from conception to completion. Their work product is the evidence-based foundation for SMEX campaigns, expertise development programs, and policy briefs. They work closely with all members of the SMEX team and report to the operations manager.

SMEX is looking for a technical support specialist, familiar with the Hopin platform to assist in the production of the 2020 edition of Bread&Net, our annual conference on digital rights. This offer is project-based (around 25 hours).

SMEX is interested in recruiting a part-time English editor. This person will be leading the English editing process under the direction of the digital content manager.

SMEX is seeking a part-time researcher to work on a project assessing the Lebanese government’s technical response, or lack thereof, to the Covid-19 crisis. The project is part of a comparative study analyzing the implications of the technical measures governments adopted, with a particular focus on the adoption of contact-tracing and immunity passport applications. The researcher does not need to be a technologist. We expect that this position will require flexible working hours of between 12-20 hours a week from August through December 2020.

SMEX is seeking a part-time researcher to work on a project analyzing the threats to internet access and digital privacy faced by Syrian refugees in Lebanon. The mixed methods research project will combine interviews with relevant stakeholders, a survey, and desk research. The ideal candidate should be comfortable conducting interviews and designing surveys. We expect that this position will require flexible working hours of between 12-20 hours a week from August through December 2020.
