Helpage International - Calls

Starting 2016, HelpAge is implementing a project in Lebanon in partnership with Amel International, Makassed Foundation, Imam Sadr Foundation and Young Mens’ Christian Association, Lebanon. The project phase 2 extends over a period of 1 year (continuation of the previous BMZ project for 3 years) and is funded by the German Government. The project main objective is to alleviate the suffering of chronically ill Syrian refugees and host community members as well as to reduce morbidity rates of type II diabetes and hypertension.

In line with the international community response to the Syrian Crisis, HelpAge International is providing support to Syrian refugees in the Middle East region including Lebanon. To date, HelpAge work in Lebanon has focused on health, protection and advocacy for the inclusion of older people in the humanitarian response.

HelpAge International is a global network of organisations working with and for older people. HA vision is a world in which all older people can lead dignified, active, healthy and secure lives.

HelpAge initiated its work in Lebanon in 2013 focusing mostly on health, protection and advocacy for the inclusion of older people in the humanitarian response. In 2017, HelpAge launched a health project to improve management of diabetes for both older Syrian refugees and host community. The project is implemented in partnership with Amel International, Makassed Foundation and Imam Sadr Foundation. It extends over a period of 2 years and is funded by the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF). The project aims to enhance diabetes prevention and self-management with view to improve care for, and strengthen self-management by people with diabetes in three regions: Beirut, Bekaa and South Lebanon.

Diabetes distress/ depression is one component of diabetes management to be tackled in the project; thus HelpAge International is planning to conduct one day training on “Diabetes Distress/ Depression” to psychologists, health and social care staff involved in the implementation of the project activities.
