Diakonia is a Swedish faith-based development organization that works to change unfair structures that generate poverty, inequality, oppression and violence. The organization was founded in 1966 and is today rooted in two Christian denominations: the Swedish Alliance Mission and the Uniting Church in Sweden. Our vision and mission are based on theological reflection and the universality of human rights. Diakonia works with around 400 partner organizations and employs approximately 300 staff in 25 country offices and 4 regional offices in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the MENA region & Sweden.

The Diakonia International Humanitarian Law Centre (IHLC) promotes respect for the laws of war through independent research, advice, and advocacy. The Centre's Lebanon-based team combines in-depth analysis of the conflict in Syria and the region with capacity development and advice for humanitarian actors. It engages with humanitarian organisations, governments, state armed forces, civil society, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and share knowledge about international humanitarian law (IHL).

Following the Beirut Explosion on August 4th, 2020, ACT Alliance members in Lebanon directly engaged in emergency & life sustaining activities in addition to distributing ready-to-eat food, facilitating psychological first aid, removing rubble and cleaning damages homes, ensuring protection and providing temporary shelter targeting around 40,480 people living in the affected area, who lost family members or property. The magnitude & complexity of the crisis, the scale of the ACT humanitarian response & requirements from back donors, have called for an external evaluation of this appeal LEB201
