MATURITY INDICES DETERMINATION FOR AVOCADOS UNDER LEBANESE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
RMF is seeking Technical and Financial proposals for the “MATURITY INDICES DETERMINATION FOR AVOCADOS UNDER LEBANESE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS”.
Fruit must meet minimum quality levels in order to meet consumer expectations in the local and export markets. Avocado fruit maturity will not improve after picking, so it is essential that the fruit reaches optimum quality requirements before harvesting. Research has shown a good relationship between dry matter content, fruit maturity and consumer preference.
Maturity indices are used to assess when avocados have reached the proper stage of development, an indicator that triggers harvest decision. However, current methods have limitations and there is a need for improved, non-destructive techniques to assess maturity.
