About ARM
Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) is a non-governmental organization working to dismantle systemic racism and achieve social, economic, and gender justice for migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon since 2011. ARM envisions a just society where all migrants enjoy decent living and working conditions with a mission to achieve social, economic and gender justice for all migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon. The Migrant Community Center (MCC) is a safer space for migrants living under Kafala. MCC works with migrant domestic workers to improve their living and working conditions and build their capacities to self-advocate for their rights as agents and leaders of change. Its programs include community-building, capacity-building, psychosocial wellbeing, community-led initiatives, and advocacy.
About MCC
Since 2010, MCC has been a safer space for migrants to meet, make friends, share resources, learn languages, build skills, produce knowledge, self-organize, and advocate for their rights as leaders of change. The center has united over 500 migrants representing over 20 nationalities.
Job Purpose
The Activity Officer will be leading the community-building and psychosocial program in the Migrant Community Center. The program encompasses a diverse array of social, cultural, psychosocial and recreational activities with the aim of fortifying resilience, fostering meaningful relationships, and cultivating a profound sense of belonging among the various communities within our center.
Job details
The MCC Activity Officer will be responsible of the following domains and tasks:
Community building program:
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive community building program that includes social, cultural and recreational activities targeting adults, children and teens
- Leading on outreach, orientation, registration, and follow-up with program participants
- Developing strategies to actively engage community members in the community building activities
- Communicating regularly with other stakeholders (facilitators, volunteers, trainers etc) to coordinate schedules, address concerns, ensure smooth and program delivery
- Coordinating logistical arrangements for program activities in MCC or external venues when needed (venue booking, equipment rental, transportation etc)
- Coordinating closely with the Admin/log officers for the implementation of the open activities in the center
- Processing or following up on payments for program expenses, ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures
CB-PSS component:
- Coordinating psychosocial support programs and interventions tailored to the specific needs and context of the members in close collaboration with external stakeholders (NGOs, facilitators, trainers)
- Leading on outreach, coordinating announcements and implementation of the program with the administration officer
Internal communication:
- Handling communication with program participants in-person and via whatsapp
- Responding to members’ questions, requests, and relaying any emerging issues
- Address conflicts and issues within the member community in a timely and constructive manner
- Participating in relevant members meetings at the center
- Maintaining strong relationships with partners, members, and visitors of MCC
- Active participation and engagement in MCC weekly meetings and other meetings
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting:
- Monitoring activities through keeping track of attendance and any other means of verification needed as per the MEAL framework
- Gathering informal and formal feedback/input from participants, volunteers, and staff to evaluate the effectiveness of activities and identify areas for improvement
- Monthly reporting on the implemented activities
- Active attendance to the monthly reporting meetings led by MEAL
Communication & Work Relationships
Internal Communication
- Regular contact with MCC staff members and other teams in ARM
- Regular contact with ARM Logistics & Procurement Officer and Space Coordinator
- Occasional contact with service providers
External Communication
- Regular contact with migrant communities and other visitors
- Occasional contact with volunteers, interns, and consultants
Framework, Boundaries, and Decision Making Authority
The MCC Activities Officer has the authority to make informed decisions on operational decisions and take necessary actions, in consultation with the MCC Coordinator.
Qualifications
Education
BA in social sciences (or equivalent)
Experience required
3-5 years of experience in relevant roles, preferably in community centers or NGOs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of migration issues and the situation of migrant workers in Lebanon
- Knowledge of planning processes, project management,, meeting facilitation, capacity-building, financial and budgeting processes
- Strong ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Willingness to work on afternoon/ evening shifts on a regular basis, and Saturdays or Sundays shifts on a semi-regular basis (replacing weekdays)
Technical Skills:
- Languages: Highly proficient in Arabic, English, and French, priority to tri-lingual applicants
- Excellent command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive, Canva, basic design
Soft Skills:
- Full commitment and adherence to ARM's mission and vision and a feminist leadership framework
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Very good organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, alongside relationship building skills, listening, the ability to demonstrate diplomatic finesse and agility across cultures
- Positive attitude and ability to be flexible in an evolving organization
