Main responsibilities:

  • Properly assess the MHPSS needs of women, adolescent girls and their family members referred by the Rafic Hariri University Hospital (RHUH) Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) and the Birth Center and provide them with case management and psychosocial support.
  • Coordinate closely with the psychotherapist and coordination team for the implementation of all MHPSS interventions and activities.
  • Build the capacity of the PHCC and Birth Centre’s staff (midwives, nurses and social workers) on the mental health screening, PSS assessment and management of women and adolescent girls in line with the National Mental Health MH integration project and the National Maternal Mental Health guidelines.
  • Contribute to the design and provision of preventive, psychosocial and awareness raising sessions activities in the PHCC, in the Birth Center and in the community.

Main responsibilities and activities of the Case Manager can change according to the organization of the work and to the composition of the team.

Main activities:

  1. Provision of mental health assessment, case-management and psychosocial support to women, adolescent girls and their families identified by the PHCC staff and at the Birth centre.
  • Assess the MHPSS needs of the women and adolescent girls referred by the PHCC and Birth Center and other RHUH services, using a biopsychosocial approach.
  • Assess the MHPSS needs of the women who gave birth at the Birth Center and provide them appropriate psychosocial support based on their needs.
  • Provide proper case-management, regular follow-up and psychosocial support services for the persons enrolled in the MHPSS services, mainly women and adolescent girls and their family members.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and safety planning to persons based on their needs.
  • Refer persons in need for psychotherapy to the psychotherapist and coordinate closely with the psychotherapist to develop individualized intervention plan.
  • Regularly update the service mapping of actors available in the area and support in the development of effective internal and external referral system when needed
  • Refer the persons in need for other services (psychiatric consultations, GBV case management, Child protection cash assistance, etc.) to the appropriate services.
  • When needed, coordinate with relevant GBV, child protection and education services to coordinate action plans for specific service users
  • Implement home visits when needed for the assessment and management of specific cases.
  • Participate to case discussions with the psychotherapist with technical support from the MH coordination team.
  1. Building the capacities of the PHCC and the Birth Center staff to facilitate the integration of MH in Primary Health Care.
  • Contribute to the needs assessment of the PHCC and Birth center staff in terms of MHPSS training.
  • Provide on the job coaching, and supervision for the PHCC and Birth Center staff trained on MHPSS integration following the NMHP pilot and on Maternal Mental health guidelines.
  • Contribute to sensitization sessions provided to the PHCC and Birth center staff on MHPSS topics to facilitate screening, identification, management and referral of MHPSS needs.
  • Facilitate the case discussion sessions in the PHCC and the Birth Center for better MHPSS management and referral of cases.  
  • Support the PHCC and Birth Center staff (midwives and social workers) in safely referring persons utilizing the appropriate referral mechanism in place.
  1. Contribution to the development and implementation of preventive, awareness and psychosocial activities in the PHCC, the birth center and in the community.
  • Co-design, organize and co-facilitate support groups in the PHCC and in the community
  • Participate in the content preparation of awareness sessions about MHPSS in the PHCC and in the Birth Center, including messages on maternal mental health to encourage self-care practices, normalize MHPSS needs and encourage women and adolescent girls to seek professional help if needed.
  • Provide awareness sessions on MHPSS in the PHCC and the Birth Center targeting women, adolescent girls and their families.
  • Support the PHCC and Birth Center staff (midwives and social workers) to provide awareness raising and psycho-education messages to women, adolescent girls and their families about MHPSS related messages.
  • When requested, participate to awareness sessions in the community and support community outreach volunteers to provide awareness raising sessions.
  1. Clinical documentation, Reporting and meetings
  • Commit to regular clinical documentation respecting deadlines.
  • Report on mental health activities and data collection, respecting deadlines
  • Participate in internal technical and non-technical meetings and training.
  • When required participate in external meetings with key actors, NGOs/INGOs, and hospital.
  • When required, participate in network/coordination and case discussion meetings concerning mental health.

Requested Competence/Skills/Profile

  • University degree in Social Work required.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in NGO work.
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health will be valued.
  • Experience providing training desired.
  • Experience working with women and adolescent girls and/or with GBV survivors desired
  • Belief in a comprehensive, holistic and recovery approach in mental health.
  • Arabic and English languages are mandatory.
  • Excellence in organizing, planning and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness and in proposing shared solutions for the continuous improvement of providing quality services.
  • Strong ability to observe, analyse, report and take initiative.
  • Ability to work with a team as well as to work independently.
  • Clear commitment to the project thematic.
  • Ability to communicate any technical or non-technical topic with clarity and to share any important project information with the team.
  • Ability to self-reflect on own work, to recognize what needs improvement and to propose solutions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word and Excel
