The Foundation for Arab Music Archiving and Research (AMAR) is seeking a dynamic Sound Archivist to handle the daily operation of its archive and sound digitization studio. AMAR was established in August 2009 in the Qurnet El-Hamra Village, Metn District, Lebanon. AMAR is committed to the preservation and dissemination of traditional Arab music. Its archive features key musicians and their performance practices representative of the “Nahda” era.
Key responsibilities:
- Digitizing and archiving of new acquisitions as well as other recordings available at AMAR needed for the implementation of projects such as publications, in addition to supporting in the general preparations of activities held by AMAR.
- Receiving and following up on inquiries and requests of researchers wishing to benefit from AMAR’s archive.
- Coordinating individual and groups visits to AMAR.
- Overseeing internships for university students related to archiving.
- Preparing periodic work progress reports.
Key qualifications:
- Educational background: Music studies, with experience in digitization and sound programs (Pro Tools, iZotope, ...) or Sound engineering, with knowledge of Arabic-Eastern music.
- Fluent in English and in Arabic. French is an asset.
- Computer literacy and experience with the internet and email communications. Proficiency in use of social networking and new media tools.
- Previous experience in civil society organizations is a plus.
- The candidate must show proficiency in the following: Organizational skills, Problem solving skills, Commitment to technical and ethical standards and deadlines.
