Project summary:

Our current project: "Activation of Public Spaces and Strengthening of Organizations that Manage
Them'' is part of the Local Development Program for Urban Areas in North Lebanon UDP_NL. UDP_NL
is implemented by GIZ in partnership with MoSA and in cooperation with Al Midan NGO. it is co-financed
by EU and Germany.

The aim of this project is to help bring several public sites in north Lebanon, that were and are still
being rehabilitated and constructed by GIZ under the UDP-NL programme to life through a
comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach with a focus on sustainability.
We aim to work closely with several organizations to develop and strengthen their capacities, which
will include technical workshops (environmental activities, eco-friendly practices, agricultural
activities such as maintaining their facilities green areas.) as well as close mentorship. The decision on
the customization of the training material will be based on an assessment developed by the trainer
and Al Midan team that assesses the participating organization’s capacities.
For the environmental specialist component, the work may cover different organizations which are:
- One community center in Chekka
- One community center in Zgharta,
- One community-based organization (CBO) in Nahr El Joz-Mejdel,
- One sports club in the Al Manqoubeen area,
- The municipality of Tripoli unit handling 6 renovated public spaces in Tripoli

Job Description for the Environmental Expert
The environmental expert trainer is needed for a maximum of up to 20 consultancy working days
distributed over the duration of up to 3 months.
This duration is distributed as follows:
Provide mentorship and follow up sessions for several organizations on environmental practices.
The training will include 1 major phase:
It will consist of weekly follow-up sessions or mentorship sessions where the trainer with the help, if
needed, of the Al Midan team (specifically the capacity building officer) will use the information given
in the assessment phase of Al Midan and apply it in real life. It is worth mentioning that the follow-up
sessions will be in-person at the facilities of the organizations.
In this phase, the trainer will be working separately with each organization. At least 4 follow-up
training sessions will be included to create an environmental practices approach for these
organizations.

Responsibilities/Duties
• Create in coordination with Al Midan team an assessment form to see the gaps for the
targeted organizations so it would be the basis for the training and mentorship sessions.
• Able to train the centers’ representatives on the recycling process and create good
environmental practices appropriate for each public space.
o Development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures
o Waste management and reduction strategies
o Pollution prevention and control measures
o Water resource management and conservation
o Biodiversity conservation and protection
o Water management practices, such as irrigation scheduling and water conservation
measures
o Recycling awareness
o Stormwater management strategies.
o Sustainable landscaping practices.
o Sustainable waste management practices, such as composting and recycling
programs
o Using eco-friendly products
• Connecting the public spaces representatives with entities that can collect the sorted waste
materials.
• Set up a weekly schedule with all participants to have individual follow-up sessions (in person)
to mentor and support them.
• Regular meetings with Al Midan to update them on the progress and ensure the activities are
falling in line with the project goals and timelines.
• Coordinate with Al Midan staff on materials and goods needed to implement the workshop.
• .
• Monitor the impact of the center’s practices on the environment, identifying environmental
issues, and recommending solutions.
• Conducting educational hands-on material that helps center’s representatives with relevant
information that they need for the improvement and enhancement of their environmental
practices.
• Write a training completion report detailing the training conducted, including the outputs of
the training and an evaluation of the knowledge acquired by participants.
Requirements
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, or any
related field.
• 3 years of relevant experience in delivering workshops and mentoring on the topic of
environmental practices.
• Impressive communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to implement the training in the Arabic language.
• Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
• Must be someone that pays keen attention to details.
• Must have excellent coordination and organizational abilities.
• Must have good problem-solving abilities.
• Must display flexibility while carrying out duties.
• Must have good time management skills.
• Must have in-depth knowledge of general environmental procedures.
