JOB PURPOSE

As a key member of Amnesty International's Global Security Team (GST), the Regional Security Manager (RSM) will support Amnesty's Director of Global Security & Workplace by ensuring a consistent, and comprehensive approach to security management in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region.

You will be the GST's lead in MENA, overseeing the maintenance of security standards across all Amnesty locations there. This will include identifying, assessing, and mitigating threats to employees, and providing advice, as appropriate, to third parties whose risks may be increased as a result of interaction with Amnesty. The RSM will also deliver security support to regions other than MENA as required and contribute to the development and delivery of safety training for Amnesty staff.

ABOUT YOU

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as principal advisor for Amnesty in the MENA region in relation to all security related issues.

Provide operational advice and support as required to managers and staff on the preparation and execution of high-risk travel, including direct security support during deployments in high-risk areas as deemed necessary.

Coordinate with the Director of Global Security & Workplace, other Global Security Team members, and relevant offices/directorates/programmes to develop and implement joint policies and guidelines to support the Global Security Framework.

Contribute to the development and delivery of Amnesty's global security training programmes.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Extensive experience of security management in MENA, ideally in multiple countries with varied risk profiles, and in the context of NGO, INGO, news media or inter-governmental agency operations.

Good communication skills in spoken and written Arabic and English essential. French language skills a significant plus also.

Strong understanding of an organisation's duty of care requirements and how this will integrate with other good security practices, health and safety legislation and organisational needs in the regional context.

Excellent overall communication skills, including experience of writing and reviewing security policies, procedures and plans.

A strong and well-developed network of contacts with key security providers in the region, as well as key professionals working with these providers.

Experience of hostile or complex operating environments with a demonstrable understanding of the challenges faced by international organisations and the NGO sector.

Knowledge of technologies and equipment of relevance to human rights investigators in conflict zones and other insecure environments would be an asset.
