MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Clinical Psychologist Degree with permission to practice the profession from the Ministry of Public Health.
  • 2 to 5 years’ overall work experience, including past experiences in dealing with chronically ill patients.
  • Preferably worked in an oncology department or with chronic diseases patients in either a general medical or hospital-based setting.
  • Proven experience in managing people/teams in low-resource environments.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience of palliative/chronic diseases/oncology and delivery of holistic End of Life Care.
  • Has willingness to introduce change for the benefit of patient care, promoting and ensuring high quality of care that meets national and international standards.
  • Is calm and methodical in approach and demonstrates empathy with others, with very good communication skills.
  • Is a genuine team player, who can influence, motivate and encourage others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, cope with stressful workloads, and work with limited resources.
  • Intervention treatments may be for individuals, families, and groups
  • Computer literacy, able to do research, write reports, and present findings.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Clinical Psychologist is responsible for diagnosing/evaluating the mental and emotional disorders of individuals. She/he will be following up on the cases referred by the home visit team and the social worker.

  • Provide in-depth psychological support to patients and families throughout SANABEL NOUR’s care duration through regular home visits based on need.
  • Support family members in issues related to coping with their loss and feelings of grief.
  • Work within the medical team to monitor appropriate treatment programs such as therapy, counseling, or advice, in collaboration with other professionals.
  • Guide and support the home care team in identifying patient/family members who need in-depth psychological support and provide the team with continuous updates on family dynamics and coping mechanisms through weekly meetings.
  • Assist the home care team in identifying family members in need of grief support.
  • Offer therapy and treatments in collaboration with their general practitioner or oncologist   related to mental health problems such as:
    anxiety, depression, addiction, social and interpersonal problems, palliative and holistic care.
  • Assess patient progress and modify treatment programs accordingly; communicate with and counsel family members as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, yet efficient and cost-effective, patient care aimed at improving the quality of life of patients and families.
  • Identify evidence-based tools and references that can assist the home care team in assessing patients’ and families’ psychological needs and behaviors.
  • Participate in trainings and orientations for newly appointed nurses and volunteers.
  • Develop and conduct trainings and workshops on communication skills and other topics related to psychological support in home hospice care for professional stakeholders in the field such as psychologists, doctors, nurses and social workers.
  • Ensure proper documentation of the assessment, planning, coordination and delivery of the psychological support provided to the patient/family.
  • Document family visits in a detailed and structured manner to be included in each patient’s file recording objectives of each intervention, plans for future action and progress and achieved results.
  • Develop and structure the mental health unit through accumulating lessons learned related to psychological support in home care.
  • Conduct and participate in community awareness sessions on the psychological aspects in end of life care.
  • Share findings and experience with key stakeholders in the field through articles, presentations, research and projects.
  • Be interested in palliative care and can participate in off-hours call rotation and home visits.
  • The successful candidate will undergo a 3-month paid training in Beirut with Sanad organization. The contract is a part time contract for 2 years.

He/She is responsible for providing psychological support to palliative patients according to Sanabel principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health. In addition, the psychologist will provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy to beneficiaries.
