Project summary:

Sport and cultural activities have always been of great importance for individuals, communities, and nations. In the last decades, it has been proven that such activities played a major role in contributing to stronger social bonds and solidarity. It played a major role in bringing people together despite their differences.

Al Midan NGO in partnership with the Local Development Program for Urban Areas in North Lebanon (UDP-NL) has implemented a successful project called Sport Builds Generations in 2020-2022, that capacitated coaches to deliver trainings that taught social-emotional skills through football trainings, events, and tournaments.

The need for such initiatives proved a great success, but considering very few organizations considering these initiatives, the need is still valid and required to achieve advanced results.

Therefore, the aim of this current project: "Activation of Public Spaces and Strengthening of Organizations that Manage Them'' is to help bring several public sites in north Lebanon, that were and are still being rehabilitated and constructed by GIZ under the UDP-NL project to life through a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach with a focus on sustainability. We aim to work closely with the organizations (NGOs, sports clubs, and municipalities) on creating and establishing new activities (basketball, ultimate frisbee, chess club, etc) and events for these spaces. More importantly, this intervention will work closely with the organizations to develop and strengthen their capacities within their organization, which will include technical workshops (marketing and branding, facility management, etc) as well as close mentorship.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure that the sport and cultural activities are implemented and meet the deadlines and deliverables.
  • Organize the events, tournaments and the youth leadership component with the support of the event and outreach coordinators.
  • Support in logistical and on-spot needs and work.
  • Be the liaison between the sports field staff (coaches and experts in the field) and office staff to coordinate and ensure the monitoring and evaluation process and the procurement and delivery of all the needs.
  • Perform regular field visits to ensure that all the sports activities are conducted in the best possible way following the project guidelines.
  • Support the event and outreach coordinators, and stakeholders in the outreaching process of players.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation purposes to ensure accessibility of quality information and contribute to the achievement of project outcomes.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committees, and municipalities to facilitate the exchange of information and support project completion in line with project plans.
  • Maintain physical and electronic (including online documentation) records of all training and coaches’ attendance sheets and update them regularly.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reports for all activities.
  • Coordinate and support the project consultancy and management team.
  • Source, collate and compile data and information to identify emerging issues and track and report on project progress against established milestones and deliverables.
  • Undertake research and analysis, identifying trends and preparing project briefs, to support informed decision-making and planning.
  • Prepare action plans for each region/cluster based on the general action plan of the project and ensure its regular monitoring and effective implementation.
  • Monitor and supervise activities and performance progress within the region/cluster according to the approved implementation work plan by the Project Management through the electronic record, written feedback, and systematic upgrade of information and regularly share feedback and elevate potential risks to the Project Management.

Accountability to beneficiaries:

Al midan team members are expected  to support all efforts towards accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitiring and evaluation of our field projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferable in Business administration or any related field.
  • Experience in Basketball coaching and familiarity with the Sport for development components.
  • Previous experience in the field of NGOs or similar roles is desirable.
  • Previous experience in conducting sports events and tournaments.
  • Proficiency in computers, office software (MS Word, Excel, etc.), teams and google drive.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Proven interpersonal written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational development, team building, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  • Skilled in data management, analysis, and report writing.
  • Knowledge in child and/or adult education.
  • Understands the primary process and methods of work regarding the position.
  • Ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Self-development, initiative-taking with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, consistent.
  • Flexible and open to changing work conditions.
