ACT Alliance

 

ACT Alliance is the largest coalition of Protestant and Orthodox churches and church-related organizations engaged in humanitarian, development and advocacy work in the world, consisting of more than 130 members working together in over 120 countries to create positive and sustainable change in the lives of poor and marginalized people regardless of their religion, politics, gender, sexual orientation, race or nationality in keeping with the highest international codes and standards. In Syria, the ACT-Alliance Syria Forum currently consists of 10 international, regional and national organizations that focus on issues related to providing coordinated humanitarian and development assistance to vulnerable populations such as refugees, internally displaced and marginalized populations in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.

The ACT Syria Forum launched an appeal entitled “Developing the Resilience of Affected People as a result of the Syria Protracted Crisis and COVID-19” for a total of 6,608,060 US$. The Middle East Council of Churches

Through the Council’s Diakonia Department and the Ecumenical Relief Program, the preservation of Human Dignity has been and will remain a strategic objective of MECC since its founding in 1974. GENERAL RESPONSIBILTIES

  1. Represent and coordinate with external stakeholders on issues of priority and interest for the ACT Syria Forum:
    1. Participate in external coordination mechanisms with priority given to country coordination platforms and disseminating relevant information to forum members.
    2. Develop and maintain relations and contact with like-minded actors within academia and the humanitarian sector.
    3. Identify and disseminate information on processes around donor consultations and calls for proposals.
    4. Take part in trainings and events of relevance to the Forum.

 

  1. Take a lead on funding processes related to the ACT-Alliance`s global appeal system:
    1. Compile requesting members` draft proposals, budgets and reports into one document and quality assure the final product before submission to the ACT-Secretariat.
    2. Provide technical assistance to members on proposal and report writing content and processes.
    3. Facilitate and conduct trainings, kick-offs, mid-term and end-term reviews and evaluations.
    4. Liaise with the ACT-secretariat in Geneva and Amman on submission, allocations of funds, and interim and final narrative and financial reporting.
    5. Reply to members, donors and other stakeholders` enquiries about the ACT-appeal.

 

  1. Ensure effective coordination of ACT Syria Forum processes:
    1. Coordinate and prepare the agenda and logistics of ACT Syria Forum meetings.
    2. Document Forum meetings, this includes preparation and dissemination of minutes.
    3. Draft work plans, budgets and reports to the Forum and the ACT-Secretariat.
    4. Prepare, facilitate and assist with trainings of interest to the majority of the members.
    5. Share information of interest with ACT Syria Forum members.
    6. Maintain an overview of ACT working groups that Syria Forum members are engaging in.
    7. Develop and report on priorities and plans.

 

  1. Liaise with the ACT Regional Secretariat staff and functions in Amman:
    1. Disseminate and coordinate responses/feedback from the ACT Syria Forum to the ACT-Secretariat`s strategies, policies, plans, processes, priorities, and concerns.
    2. Provide information to the ACT-Secretariat on ACT Syria Forum`s strategies, plans, priorities, and concerns.
    3. Participate, when relevant, in the ACT-MENA (Middle East and North Africa) working groups and Communities of Practices as delegated by the Forum.
    4. Participate in ACT trainings and provide follow-up of action plans related to these.
    5. Assist with general correspondence of relevance to the ACT Syria Forum and its membership.

 

  1. Assist with strengthening ACT-Syria Forum visibility and communication:
    1. Assist and coordinate in developing policy documents and advocacy positions as delegated by the Forum.
    2. Develop communications and public relations materials as delegated by the Forum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in political, social sciences, international relations or relevant subject is preferable
  • Minimum three years` work experience with NGOs.
  • Experience in facilitating and conducting trainings and meetings.
  • Familiarity with the Core Humanitarian Principles and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
  • Solid knowledge about the context in Syria
  • Experience in project level report writing and editing is required.
  • Experience in compiling/reviewing project budgets and financial reports is required.
  • Experience with coordination of secretariat functions.
  • Exposure to working with faith-based organizations and networks is an asset.
  • Strong communication, inter-personal, facilitation and diplomatic skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with strong editing skills. Ability to fluently communicate in Arabic.
