Agriculture Field Engineer

Project: Increased food security for vulnerable communities through sustainable smallholder farming.

2.      Background and objectives of the project

The purpose of this project is to respond to the rapidly deteriorating food security situation of vulnerable people in Lebanon.

The main activities of the project are:

1. Capacity building for farmers to reduce the use of chemicals and adopt sustainable farming methods.
2. Provide monthly coaching activities for farmers and monitor their field practices.
3. Create a market for sustainable farmers in Beirut and connect farmers directly to end consumers without the “middle man” linkage.

3.      Scope of work

The agriculture engineer is expected to do the below :

1.  Have a clear idea about the farmers’ profile and the main agricultural challenges of the farmers in this area before doing any field visit.
2. Set an informal agreement between the coach and the farmer so that the farmer would know what to expect from the coach and have a clear understanding about the process that will be going on.
3. Conduct monthly visits to each farmer and answer their questions, and provide them with all the possible help needed to implement sustainable agriculture practices.
4. Update JIBAL team on a monthly basis about the status and situation of every cluster through a meeting.                 
5. Fill in a monitoring field visit report (template provided by Jibal) after each coaching session.
6. Present a written report summarizing coaching activities per cluster
7. Attend an evaluation meeting with Jibal at the end of the assignment.

  4.      Outputs / Deliverables

1.                  Prepare and submit a word format report summarizing field activities for each farmer.

5. Qualifications of consultant

• Minimum three years of experience in farmers development, crop protection activities and sustainable agriculture practices and eco friendly practices.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Very good reporting capabilities in English and Arabic.

6. Number of working days :

The assignment is between May 2021 and September 2021, 5 days per month (75 farmers to be visited one per month individually).

7 . Management

The coach will work under the supervision of Hanna Mikhael, agriculture engineer of the project.
