Legal Accountant

BACKGROUND

INARA provides life-altering medical care and reconstructive surgery for children (0-18 years) who have injuries or illnesses due to war or unsafe living conditions as refugees, and are unable to access or afford treatment. INARA’s work consists of filling the gap in access to free of charge medical and surgical treatment, as well as mental health services. INARA also supports ongoing cases with medication, medical equipment (such as prosthetic, eyeglasses, glass eyes, hearing aids), laboratory and diagnostic testing, transportation, accommodation prior/post-surgery, and other therapeutic regimens (speech therapy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy).

INARA is looking for a Legal Accountant in Lebanon on a consultancy basis. This position is extended to Lebanese nationals only as stipulated by the Lebanese law.

DESCRIPTION

The Legal Accountant will work closely with the Country Manager and the Finance and Administration Manager to compile, file, and report all relevant financial documentation and requirements to the local authorities. This is a part-time consultancy and not an employment position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Register the organization at the Ministry of Finance
• Registration of staff at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and filing for updates whenever there is a modification in staffing
• Tax Declaration: preparation of all types of tax declarations to file with regulatory agencies (such as Ministry of Finance, NSSF) as per the below:
  • Annual tax declaration of the organization
  • Value Added Tax (VAT)
  • Tax on salaries / income tax
  • Social security
• Work closely with the Country Manager and the Finance and Administration Manager to be compliant to all local regulations related to the financials of the organization
• Provide advice to the organization about local regulations/legislation and requirements, and any updates issued by the authorities in this regard
• Representation of the organization during tax audits by the authorities

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This consultancy is a combination of remote and field work. Field work is comprised of meetings at INARA’s office in Beirut and instances when the consultant has to file/obtain paperwork at local ministries or the NSSF.

An annual service agreement will be extended to the successful consultant. The Level of Effort will vary from one month to another, thus the retainer will be compensated on a bi-annual basis.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Master’s degree is a plus.
• 3 years of cumulative experience in accounting
• At least 2 years of relevant experience working in a similar position/consultancy with a non-profit organization
• Prior experience in working with governmental authorities
• At least 2 years of experience in Lebanese taxation
• Native Arabic language is a must; good working ability in English is required for internal communications and reporting purposes
• Lebanese citizenship as stipulated by the Lebanese law
• Ability to work within INARA’s guiding principles
