Lebanon Support is an action-oriented, non-profit research centre for and about civil society.
We are a multidisciplinary space creating synergies and bridging between researchers, experts, civil society and NGO practitioners, and activists. Lebanon Support aims to foster social change through innovative uses of social science, digital technologies, and publication and exchange of knowledge.
We achieve our action-oriented mission through 3 main programs:

Background of the programme:
The multilayered crises societies in our region are currently facing, namely the public health crisis with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as deeply rooted social and economic inequalities, have contributed to highlight stark inequalities, often due to systematic privatisation, austerity measures, clientelistic practices to cite only a few.
This assignment is part of a wider action oriented research project on social justice Lebanon Support is currently implementing.
Assignment:
Lebanon Support is looking for a researcher on social protection to document existing knowledge, data, research, and analysis, on social justice, and social protection schemes including national systems including– but not restricted to – Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia. This will entail notably:
1/ Development of a research paper on social protection and rights in MENA countries, documenting notably milestones and achievements historically. The research will document social protection systems in MENA countries from a historical perspective, along with a contextual analysis of state formation, the key historical events that have impacted these systems, as well as the political and social achievements and advancement of social protection models in these countries.
2/ Development of content in various formats based on the main insights and findings from the research, as requested by Lebanon Support so as to disseminate the results. .
3/ Participation in webinars or other knowledge sharing events to present and discuss findings.
Timeframe:
The timeframe to complete this assignment is 6 months with a possibility of renewal.
Requirements/eligibility:
Masters degree in sociology or political science is required; PhD candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Excellent research and analytical skills and academic record;
Publication track record on social movements and collective action;
Outstanding writing, editing and analytical skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations;
Excellent knowledge of qualitative research methods; familiarity with quantitative tools and mixed methods is highly desirable;
Excellent time management skills;
Fluency in English and Arabic are minimum requirements. Knowledge of French is highly desirable;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and a very strong capacity for effective teamwork;
Strong management and organisational skills.
