Founded in 1996 in Germany, forumZFD (forum Civil Peace Service) is an organisation advocating for peace and non-violence with more than 80 employees working in Germany, the Middle East, the Western Balkans, and South-East Asia.
forumZFD has been active in Lebanon since 2009. Together with its partners, forumZFD develops local capacities within civil society and supports their projects for nonviolent conflict transformation. Currently, forumZFD’s work in Lebanon is framed under three programmes: Community Mobilizing, Dealing with the Past, and Capacity Development (CD). With a growing portfolio of projects and partner organizations, forumZFD’s work has expanded to include training, coaching, mentoring, development of manuals and training material, as well as co-implementation of projects and activities. Consultant for training concept on self-care and resilience building

The Capacity Development Programme of forumZFD is currently in the process of designing a number of short training workshops (2-3 days) for community activists and civil society actors/organisations across Lebanon with the aim of offering them support in developing effective strategies for their work, designing relevant activities and finding ways to operate sustainably in challenging times.

Among the trainings that CD would like to develop is a training on concepts and methods to increase self-care and heighten resilience for people active in civic engagement. The training is envisioned as a space for reflection, exchange of experiences and encouraging participants to discover their strength in difficult circumstances that would allow them to continue their activism in a healthy and sustainable way.       

Scope of the consultancy

Work for up to four days with trainers from forumZFD (up to 5) to develop a self-care and resilience-building training concept for civil society and community actors in Lebanon. 

The forumZFD trainers who are highly experienced facilitators are specialized in conflict transformation and NVC and have some basic insights in PSS, self-care and resilience. What is needed however is support from an expert consultant who specializes in self-care and resilience to develop together a state-of-the-art training.

The cooperation should be a space for discussing, experimenting and learning together with a focus on the input of the consultant who introduces methods and techniques that can be incorporated in the training concept which the forumZFD trainers will deliver.

Objective

forumZFD trainers develop with the help of the consultant a self-care and resilience-building training that can be implemented by the trainers later-on in the framework of their work with civil society/community actors and activists across Lebanon.

Expected date for consultancy

4 days in March 2020 plus two days preparation and two days documentation of output (8 days in sum).

In case consultant will come from outside Lebanon, travel, accommodation and board will be covered by forumZFD.

Profile of consultant 

• Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training on self-care and resilience
• Consultancy experience in this field would be an asset
• Has a portfolio of tools and exercises that he/she can draw from
• Ability to work in a highly interactive setting (joint brainstorming, discussion, trying out)
• Experience in working in the Arab world preferable
• Good knowledge of the socio-political context in Lebanon preferable, incl. current developments
• Preference will be given to Arabic speakers
