ABAAD PURPOSE:

ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings. Through women, boys’ and girls’ empowerment and improving the quality of multi-sectorial assistance for women and girls survivors or at risk of GBV among the host and Syrian refugee population.

 

Background:

Response and Outreach to Empower Gender Based Violence (GBV) Trauma Survivors, in Syria 2019 is a project being implemented in Damascus, Sweida and Daraa. In the aim of providing quality GBV response, capacity building and prevention services to affected population residing in Syria.

 

Self/Staff care training:

As a result of the increasing demand on services that respond to the psychological and mental health needs of conflict survivors, and given the scarcity of caregivers compared to the demand, care givers will be dealing with an increasing number of cases, usually accompanied with increased stress resulting from all the workload and issues affiliated with it. This training provides background information on the issue, the theoretical explanation of associated concepts, practical tools to measure self-care professionally and other tools to leverage the level of self and staff care within a team of care providers.

The training is of 7 days and mainly targets participants who are team leaders of care providers or supervisors who are responsible for the wellbeing of their staff.

 

 

 

JOB PURPOSE:

 

The self-care training consultant will be responsible for developing context-based training materials, utilizing generic and context specific tools and resources. The training will cater to building capacities of team leaders and managers of frontliners, from multiple organizations in multiple governorates in Syria; particularly those involved in ensuring proper wellbeing of care providers.

The desired output of the training is a pool of skilled team leaders and managers with increased capacities to create a safe and confidential space for self-expression for their teams/staff, where they can explore means of better managing work-related stressors and identify and effectively channel their resources in response to these stressors.

 

REPORTING LINES:   

 

Post Holder Reports Directly to: ABAAD Director of programs

In addition, post holder coordinates closely with the Program coordinator for planning, implementation, and with ABAAD MHPSS & GBV Advisors for technical inquiries.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Designing and implementing 3 cycles of training, each 7 days long, to 3 different groups of team leaders / HR managers or staff associates, on the concept of self-care and staff care, relevant techniques and tools as well as methodologies and practical exercises to create a more resilient and empowering staff environment for the benefit of care providers. The below points give more detail on the expected responsibilities:

 

  • Design and contextualize capacity building and training materials, including needed theoretical information on the issue of self/staff care, addressing the needs of care providers, team leaders and managers of frontline workers in the field of case management and psycho-social support in Syria.
  • Prepare training files, including pre and post-tests to measure training impact, training evaluation and any relevant brochures and information materials in a portfolio to each trainee.
  • Develop training agenda.
  • Implement self-care training to three different groups of individuals, each cycle is for 7 days.
  • Prepare training report, include comparison between pre and post-tests, participants’ evaluations of the training and any relevant recommendations.
  • Assist trainees in developing staff care plan for their corresponding teams.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven abilities of organizing self-care groups
  • Master’s degree in clinical psychology or social work;
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of the GBV framework and related cultural and contextual dynamics;
  • Experience in providing group and individual support to service providers working with national and/or international NGOs in the region;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
