Nationality Law: A New Proposed Legislation

الأسبوع الماضي في 21 أيّار 2019 ، قدمت الهيئة الوطنية لشؤون المرأة اللبنانية مشروع قانون حق المرأة لمنح الجنسية. انتقد العديد من  الناشطين ومنظمات المجتمع المدني بعض قيود مشروع القانون، بحيث أنه ينطبق فقط على الأطفال (وليس الأزواج)،  كما أنّه  أيضاً ينطبق فقط على الأطفال دون سن الثامنة عشر. يحصل الأفراد الذين يزيد أعمارهم عن ثمانية عشر عامًا  على "البطاقة الخضراء" التي تمنحهم جميع حقوق المواطن اللبناني المدنية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية ، باستثناء الحقوق السياسية وحق شغل المناصب العامة ، وحق الملكية الخاصة.

ما رأيك في هذا القانون؟

Last week on May 21, 2019, the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) presented a draft law on the right of Lebanese women to pass on citizenship. Many CSOs, and activists have criticised some aspects of the draft law as it notably only applies to children (not husbands) on the one hand, and on the other, it only applies to children who are younger than 18 years old. Individuals older than eighteen would get the right to a “green card” that gives them all the civil, economic and social rights of the Lebanese citizens, with the exception of political rights, the right to hold public office and the right to own property.

How should we, as civil society actors, address this law? Should we lobby for changing it or simply reject it?
