The primary responsibilities of the Communications and Outreach Coordinator is to work closely with the STEP Technical Team and understand their needs for communication materials. These materials could be pamphlets, brochures, infographics, training materials, grant documentation, roll-ups, banners, etc. The Coordinator needs to identify resources for the development of the communication materials. The Coordinator needs to track the versions of the communication materials to ensure they are up-to-date. The Coordinator needs to manage the social media accounts for the programme including the website, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The Coordinator needs to ensure that the programme is in compliance with DFID's communication policies.

Primary responsibilities

  • Proactively coordinate with the technical team to determine their communication needs.
  • Act as point of liaison for DFID communications and press, and ensure programme compliance in line with DFID's policy on communication.
  • Meet with the programme's partners marketing communication's departments to understand their strategic plans for promoting STEP. Maintain strong relations with the programme's partner's communication teams. Track their promotions and ensure coordination on the programme materials are available for their promotional road shows. Also, determine if it would be beneficial to co-promote the STEP grant product with the events and materials of the financial institutional partners.
  • Coordinate the communications with other strategic partners. Plan for any co-promotions of events, trade fairs, etc. where the STEP product could be marketed/promoted. Organization and facilitate events (online and offline) to support launch, outreach, selection and raising broader awareness of STEP's activities.
  • Ensure STEP branding including logo, key messaging, Q&A factsheets, branding guidelines and marketing templates and materials are kept up to date, based on the work of the programme team, feedback from SMEs, and learning developed during the pilot phase.
  • Manage communication and information systems including overseeing development of the programme website/portal, social media (e.g. Facebook), contact database, etc. Keep the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) updated on the website.
  • Develop effective communication plans. Monitor programme's media campaigns. Track the media campaigns and communications effectiveness of other donor-funded projects to determine if their strategies can be applied to STEP.
  • Effectively manage programme website, social media and other potential online tools to ensure high level of quality content and regular publication of accurate and useful information to all stakeholders.
  • Drive implementation of the programme's communications and outreach plan to support the programme's overall activities including for outreach, key stakeholder and community sensitization, selection, knowledge management, etc.
  • Generate analytics based reports to understand traffic at STEP website and social media platforms.
  • Implement recommendations from the Strategic Communication Advisor.
  • Manage the inputs from the communication subcontractors: design company and copywriter

Reporting
The coordinator will report directly to the Team Leader, along with the Deputy Team Leader. He/she will work closely with the Technical Managers (SME, BDS and Social Inclusion and Policy) as well as other nominated members within the STEP Technical Team to put together the necessary communications materials to complete the deliverables.

Level of Effort

This position will require up to no more than 90 days worth of effort between 26 November 2018 through 30 April 2019. 

Qualifications

  • BA/S or equivalent in business administration, economics, finance, international development, or other relevant field
  • At least 5 to 7 years of experience and competence in communication
  • Experience in developing high-level strategic communications
  • Experience with private sector development programs is preferred
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English and Arabic
