PURPOSE OF THE POST Under the guidance of the Administrative Assistant provides transportation assistance, as a driver, to Syria Country office staff members and other visitors in Beirut. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Describe in order of importance what incumbent does and how. Do not exceed more than 10-12 major duties. Indicate the percentage of time devoted to each duty or responsibility. Do not include duties of less than 5%.)
(50%)Responsible for safely driving UNICEF vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers including VIPs. Transport assignments for both intra-city and inter-city may also include collection and delivery of official mails, documents and other items.
(15%)Ensure that all safety regulations, security operating procedures and standard HF & VHF communications procedures are followed. Ensures that all mandated security related equipment is present and operational in the vehicle at all times. Ensure that all required documentations present in the vehicle at all times. Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident or other incident involving the vehicle and or its passengers.
(10%)Maintain daily checklist on day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle and review with the Administrative/HR Assistant so that the office could take preventive action in respect of minor/major repairs needed.
(10%)Ensure clean and tidy vehicle exterior and interior, including the engine at all time and follow approved maintenance schedule. (5%)Maintain vehicle log book to record both official and personal usage (KM), Fuel consumption, oil change and ensure that the user signs the log book.
(5%)Meets official personnel at the airport and performs protocol functions and provide transportation to the Lebanese/Syria border as required.
(5%)Performs any other assignment given by the supervisor or as management may decide from time to time.
WORKING CONDITIONS(Describe the conditions of the work place, travel requirements, and risks or hazards to which the incumbent is exposed. Indicate if it is an office-based post. Also, indicate the extent and frequency of physical requirements of the job, such as lifting heavy loads, or other types of exertion.)
1.Travels are of frequent nature to project sites within the UNICEF Offices and infrequently outside the governorate. Driving is an intrinsically risky job. The job demands frequent and often back-to-back travel over long distances, sometimes including weekends and night driving within Beirut for protocol assignments. 2.Lifting and moving items under 25kg will occasionally be required.
IMPACT AND CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR(a)Describe the type of decisions or recommendations regularly made and their impact on other persons or the work of the office.The incumbent is expected to make recommendation relating to the condition of the vehicle that he/she is responsible for.
(b)Describe the most damaging error(s) that could be made in the work and the consequences they would have.Poor preventive maintenance practices and delays in drawing attention of the office to need for prompt vehicle repairs may lead to loss of valuable office working time, increased cost and, more importantly, may also lead to avoidable accidents.
6.REVIEW OF WORK (Describe the degree of supervision and instruction the incumbent receives from the immediate supervisor, e.g., work assigned with specific instructions and guidance; checked while in progress; or undertaken independently and reviewed upon completion for accuracy or adherence to instructions.)Tasks are assigned by supervisor. GUIDELINES
(a)Indicate which guidelines are required for performing the duties of the post (rules, regulations, policies, procedures, practices, precedents, manuals, instructions, etc.)Specific guidelines are provided for most of the tasks.Detailed knowledge and familiarity with the National Highway codes, Vehicle Manuals; MOSS/Local security guidelines, Office guidelines and instructions governing the use of vehicles; daily checklist and familiarity with the driving practices in Syria.
(b)Describe the degrees to which interpretation of, and deviation from, existing guidelines are permitted, and the authority to propose or establish new guidelines.Instructions to be observed strictly. Judgment and a very good cognizance of the driving practices observed by the drivers in the Syria highways are crucial to the prevention of serious and fatal accidents.

Professional driver’s license; certificate in vehicle maintenance an asset. Experience in use of HF & VHF communications equipment an asset
b)Work Experience: Five years’ work experience as a professional driver; safe driving record and two years experience in minor vehicle repairs
c)Languages: Good knowledge English language (written and spoken), as well as Arabic.
