with Dr. Şaban Kardaş, Dr. Ferhat Pirinççi and Mr. Oytun Orhan of the Middle East Strategic Research Center (ORSAM) – Turkey
Dr. Şaban Kardaş is the President of ORSAM and Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations at TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara. He is Assistant Editor to the quarterly journal ‘Perceptions’ and writes analyses for the German Marshal Fund's on Turkey series. He received his doctoral degree in Political Science from the University of Utah. Dr. Kardaş will discuss ‘Turkey’s Policy toward the Syrian Crisis and Its Implications’.
Dr. Ferhat Pirinççi is an Advisor at ORSAM and Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations at Uludağ University in Bursa. He worked as an Advisor at the Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2012 and 2014 and was a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Turkish Studies at the Middle East Institute, Washington D.C. in 2013. He received his doctoral degree in International Relations from Uludag University. Dr. Pirinççi will discuss ‘The Impact of the Crisis on Iraq: ISIS and beyond’.
Mr. Oytun Orhan is a researcher at ORSAM, focusing on Middle Eastern affairs, particularly Syria and Lebanon. He is a doctoral candidate at the International Relations Department in Abant Izzet Baysal University. His master’s thesis was entitled “The Effect of Identity on Syria’s Regional Policies (1946-2000)”. He has been on several field trips in the region, and served in elections observation teams in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan. Mr. Orhan will discuss ‘The Humanitarian Aspect of the Syrian Crisis: The Refugee Dimension’ .
