The Communications Intern will gain practical experience in research, reporting, and media outreach and learn directly about ICTJ’s work in key areas of transitional justice and human rights around the world.
Applicant should be an under graduate or graduate student studying or a strong interest in communications, have excellent writing and research skills and a good understanding of transitional justice concepts. S/he will be a proficient Arabic speaker with excellent writing skills as well as fluent in English and French.
The intern will be supervised by the Communications Associate to support the Communications Arabic Online function at ICTJ across all areas including:

Research on criminal justice; truth and memory; reparations; gender; children’s rights; and institutional reform
Research and report on online presence of Arabic-speaking audience
Global and regional news monitoring in Arabic
Monitoring events (conferences, lectures, trainings and workshops) in Arabic
Monitoring and tracking ICTJ’s work on social media platforms
Identifying updates for ICTJ’s Arabic web pages

Essential/Basic Requirements:

Course work in Communications, or a related business or humanities major
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent communication skills and the ability to take direction as well as work independently
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail and ability to prioritize

Interns are encouraged to attend all ICTJ public events, open meetings, and other local human rights-related events to foster their understanding of current trends in transitional justice.
This is a part-time, unpaid internship based in our Beirut office, with a time commitment of 20 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks (March – May 2014). Students should check with their academic institution to determine if they are eligible to receive academic credit for this internship.
