Calls For Expression Of Interest: Assessment And Value Chain Mapping With Regard To Food Losses In The Fruit Sub-Sector In Lebanon

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Lebanon intends to carry out an assessment and a value chain mapping with regard to food losses in the fruit sub-sector in Lebanon according to the below Terms and Reference.

Capacity Building for Food Loss Reduction

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Regional Representative for the Near East, the operational supervision of the budget holder and the direct supervision of the FAO Representative in Lebanon and in close coordination with the National Project Coordinator and the National and International Consultants, the Eligible Entity will achieve the following outputs by undertaking the following activities:

Activity 1 :Undertake an assessment and a value chain mapping with regard to food losses in the fruit sub-sector in Lebanon

Activity 2 : Based on Activity 1, assess the training needs for target audiences, in particular the knowledge and capacity gaps in the postharvest handling and storage, processing, and distribution phases of fruit value chains

Activity 3 :Design the curricula for the Fruit Value Chain Development Workshop including classroom instruction and demonstrations on improving food value chain and reducing food losses, for concerned stakeholders, operators and extension agents.

Activity 4: Create training materials and manuals with a focus on the fruit value chain management strategies for food losses reduction including initial quality and safety, postharvest handling and packaging, pest management, processing, cold chain management, agribusiness management and marketing.

Activity 5 :Develop visual aids (posters, charts) illustrating improved practices in reducing food losses for fruits in Lebanon in order to increase the awareness on the negative impacts of food losses among all concerned stakeholders.

Activity 6 : Develop and provide trainees with a Food Loss Prevention Tool Kit in relation to the fruit sub-sector including the basic tools needed to assess food quality, and monitor shelf life of fruits along the value chain.

Activity 7: Conduct a Value Chain Development Workshop, including class room instruction and demonstrations on prevention and reduction of food losses, for at least 24 managers, technical experts in the horticulture and food industry, and extension agents (others can also be added pending space).

The offer should comprise a concept note describing the methodology of the work, means and resources to be used, the detailed time frame and the detailed cost.

Eligible Entity: A governmental, inter-governmental, non-governmental or other not-for-profit entity registered as a legal entity (which may include voluntary and community organizations, civil society organizations, universities, academic institutions and public research institutions). A legal entity may range from small, local community groups to large, established, national and international organizations including registered charities having a relief, developmental, educational, social or scientific purpose but do not include individual natural persons and unregistered or informal groups.
