Background
Diakonia is a Swedish non-governmental development organization works in partnership with over 400 civil-society organizations in 34 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Diakonia has been present officially in Lebanon since 2007 working in partnership with local organizations, aiming at strengthening and empowering civil-society organizations to change the unfair structure at political, social, economic and cultural levels. The concept of “good donorship” is key to Diakonia’s work, characterized by partners’ ownership, support to partners’ own agendas and strategies, long-term predictable funding, competence development based on partners’ defined needs and donor coordination.
Diakonia’s goal to change unfair structures requires interventions at different levels over a period of time. Therefore Diakonia works with a long term approach, in programmes consisting of a number of complementary partners. The Diakonia Strengthening Civil society Program is being implemented for five year period (2016-2020) with focus on capacity building of the partner organizations. Partners’ capacity building is a core intervention to ensure sustainability and realization of the partners’ goals.
The capacity building project implemented by Diakonia for Diakonia’s partner organizations in Lebanon aims at enhancing their:
Administrative and financial capacity; Internal governance; Advocacy and communication capacity; PMER capacity; Conflict sensitivity, gender and environment mainstreaming;
For that, Diakonia will establish a pool of consultant for the period from 2017 to 2020. These consultants will be working closely with the partner organizations and with each other and with Diakonia Lebanon CO to ensure the realization of the capacity building project objectives.
Objective of the consultancy
The Consultant will:
Capture and document the learning process of the capacity building project; Coordinate between the various stakeholders (Diakonia’s team, the Partner Organizations and the Consultants) for the smooth implementation of the capacity building project;
Design and implement learning events for the stakeholders (Diakonia’s team, the Partner Organizations and the Consultants) to enhance the realization of the Capacity Building Project’s objectives; Design and implement reflection meetings for the stakeholders (Diakonia’s team and the Consultants) on adult learning tools, techniques, methods and approaches of effective coaching to enhance the realization of the Capacity Building Project’s objectives.
Duration of the assignment
This is a long term assignment is anticipated to commence in November 2017 for three months and then from 2018 till end of 2020 on yearly basis.
Consultant background
Experience in capturing and reporting on learning and; Experience in coordinating capacity building interventions for CSOs; Experience in coaching and/or adult learning; Experience in working with various CSOsin Lebanon.

The consultant shall respect the confidential nature of all information acquired during this consultancy with Diakonia. Diakonia is the sole copyright owner of the products stemming from this consultancy.
