Assistant Engineer

Project description: Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teachers Improvement (D-RASATI) will enhance educational outcomes in Lebanon by improving teacher and student performance, increasing community and parental involvement, and ameliorating the school learning environment. D-RASATI is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
 
Title: Assistant Engineer
 
Summary of Functions: Within this context, D-RASATI is seeking Assistant Engineers to assist in conducting technical surveys in order to assess the conditions and identify the rehabilitation needs of Public school buildings and their facilities during the months of March, April and May of 2012.  The Assistant Engineer is responsible for helping and assisting the Engineer in conducting the surveys in a timely manner with high quality in all regions of Lebanon. 
 
Essential Functions [but are not limited to]:
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Engineer will be to accompany the engineer to the school sites in order to assist in assessing the schools’ physical conditions and taking the necessary measurements.   In addition the assistant engineer will carry out necessary preparations assigned to him by the engineer to ensure that the school site visits and surveys are carried out in accordance with the project requirements including:
 

Assisting the engineer in taking measurements and recording them including on sketches;
Notifying the engineer of potential obstacles that may develop or can be foreseen;
Filling out daily visit log sheets and reports;
Conducting in-country trips to visit schools in various Lebanese regions;
 Filing and managing office paper work;
Carrying out other duties as required.

 
Qualifications:
 

Technical Baccalaureate in Topography, Engineering, or Architecture with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience on similar school rehabilitation projects or is an asset and will be considered favorably in conjunction of educational requirements;
Good communication skills; strong written and oral communication skills;
Friendly, good people skills, easy to accommodate with people;
Familiar with region(s) in Lebanon;
Competent in using Word and Excel;
Ability to walk, stand, reach and possibly climb on ladders and go up or down stairs to inspect and collect data on the physical conditions of the school facilities including roofs and basements;
Good driving skills;
Lebanese national;
Clean and up to date police certificate (sijil ‘adleh).

 
 
Compensation includes:
 

Transportation as per project formula;
Hotel overnight lodging if required;
This position is an intermittent full-time job over the next three months at least, with possibility to extend;
Package offered according to qualifications and experience.
