General Purpose of the Position

The Learning Support Tutor will provide support to elementary students enrolled in formal education programs in public schools, assisting them in French and other subjects such as Math, Science, and Arabic, in addition to offering homework support.

Main Responsibilities of the Position

  • Teaches elementary students Science, Math, and French according to the teaching materials provided by public schools.

  •  Develops creative methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs and interests of students.
  • Organizes daily and monthly lesson plans.
  • Attends training sessions designed to improve teaching and classroom performance, including follow-up classroom mentoring and observations by Education Coordinator .
  • Maintains a safe and effective teaching and learning environment in the classroom.
  • Attends weekly tutors' meetings and parents' meetings as needed.
  • Applies JRS policies in the educational center.
  • Ensures the class environment is safe.
  • Uses differentiated instruction strategies in lesson plans to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Completes observation checklists for symptoms of learning disabilities.
  • Prepares Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities in collaboration with the Field Special Educator.
  • Maintains daily routines and encourages positive reinforcement to address challenging behaviors.
  • Creates an inclusive environment by using inclusive language, displaying diverse materials, and addressing instances of discrimination or exclusion.
  • Collaborates with Education Coordinator and Field Special Educator on implementing activities related to school inclusion events.
  • Attends training sessions and stays informed about the latest research related to inclusive education. 

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or any other related field.
  • A Teaching Diploma is an asset.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Experience working with refugees is a plus.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities is a plus.
